Need Notification of Pending Voicemails

My new Samsung Charge does not indicate that I have received voicemails.  So every time I lay the phone down, when I come back to it, I have to dial into voicemail to see if there are any new messages.  Is there a setting to display a number beside the voicemail icon on the homepage like the one that appears for unread messages beside the email icon?

You should see your missed calls and voicemails (I think this requires visual voicemail) in the notification area at the very top of the screen.  Touch this area and swipe down to get more details on these items.

To have the count number on the Voicemail icon, you need to subscribe to Visual Voicemail.

With the basic voicemail, you should have a notification at the top of your screen in the notification line.
