Need Verizon to explain why orders are filled "out of order"

Many of us have noticed that orders are being filled by some criteria other than when the order was placed. Why is this?

I'm getting really upset about this whole back order with the X. I'm confused on why some are getting and some are not getting.

A manager said that priority is first given to stores so that they can re-supply and then to people who paid full retail or close to full retail for their phones, and then it depends on how many phones are available at a given warehouse within a given region. It stinks but does make sense.

I wouldn't mind so much but I bought online and was charged immediately not when it ships. I used a debit card so I am dinged almost $200 for 2 weeks plusand still no phone.

So you are saying that the ones who went to the store for the X and ordered it will get it before the online orders? I ordered mine through the store and paid full amount.

What I was told is that it doesn't matter whether you bought it online or at a store. What I mean is that the stores themselves order phones to replace ones that they sold in store. Those are the ones that get priority, not the people who order them in store. Sorry if that was unclear.

Let me get this straight.....
VZW stores get stock to sell to new customers while those of us who have already paid for our phones have to wait?
WTF is that???
I have converted 4 people to VZW so far this year... I am seriously hoping they don't have to deal with VZW "customer service" or I will never hear the end of it.

Yeah I don't understand why VZW stores have to stock up before sending the customers who bought and paid for theirs. I think the ones who ordered and paid should get theirs first, before restocking the store. I'm not satisfied with the way VZW is working things about the X.

That's exactly Verizon's strategy here. Stock the stores as fast as they can. Their priority is new customers that are waiting to activate their phones so they can collect on their contracts. At the bottom of the list are customers like me. I've been with Verizon for years now. Pay close $160 per month for services. I called to upgrade my phone because my BlackBerry started crapping out on me. Well I'm still paying $160 a month for this half-functioning BlackBerry, plus I just bought this new X, and they know I'm not going anywhere unless I pay the termination fee. So they can afford to have me wait 3+ weeks for a new phone. Worse case scenario for Verizon is that I finally get **bleep** off at seeing all the new customers who ordered their phone after I did receive theirs first and decide to jump ship and go to AT&T. Of course if I do that then I have to pay out the a$$ to terminate my contract. So what does being a loyal, high-paying Verizon customer buy you? Try a 3 week wait time for an upgrade to a working phone. I swear this time last month I was one of the most pro-Verizon people you would ever talk to. That's changed and it's now my goal to spread the word to others in hopes they don't make the same mistake I did. So for all of you new customers out there that got your Droid X right away, congrats... but just remember this post in 3-4 years when you're looking to get the latest/greatest new phone from Verizon. Maybe I'll be a returning customer at that point and get to break in front of you!
But other than that, it's just a phone and there are more important things in life... Lesson learned I guess.

I am a new customer, I signed up through my company and do have a company VZW phone. I ordered on the 6th and the web site said 8/23 ship date. I still do not have mine. Almost 2 weeks. New customers aren't getting them any quicker. Hopefully it ships Monday which is when it says on the site. My email confirmation had no promised ship date. It says when supply is available.

The corporate store near where I live and bought my Droid X has not received a single shipment of Droid X's since before launch day, 7/15. People at this corporate store tell me that they have tried and tried to get more units in stock, but Verizon will not comply because they have units previously ordered on the phone to fill first. Does anyone really think there is a single distribution policy purposively designed and imposed on all sources of Verizon phones? Maybe different regions get different stock and the people running these different regions make different decisions about what to do with their inventory. Anyone really know corporate policies and how the distribution of availability units really works?

Verizon really dropped the ball on this one. Waiting nearly 3 weeks for a phone to arrive is unacceptable. Reading other message boards it appears that customers in certain areas of the country are getting their phones much faster than others. In particular those in the northeast seem to get priority. I hope I'm wrong but it doesn't erase the fact that mine is taking almost 3 weeks. Get your act together Verizon!!

Not to add fuel to the fire here, but there may be an issue with that order if it has been 3 weeks...with no FedEx email.
I ordered mine on Aug. 12th. Received my FedEx email notification on Aug. 19th. It'll be at my doorstep this coming Monday. Ordinarily, I'd yell at you to be patient, because it's backordered, but something seems out of place if I have my tracking number already, and you've waited 3 weeks with no word whatsoever. Perhaps an error was made in the system ?

Did you order yours online? I ordered mine in store but I called to confirm the shipment. They told me that I'd get a call or an email when FedEx picks up the phone, then I should recieve an email with the tracking number.
Order phone 8/14
Processed 8/15
Estimated shipping date 8/30
*crossing fingers that I get the email saying its being shipped* My cell now works when it wants too. So I'd like to get my X soon!

I ordered mine online, because of the instant rebate. No mailing to do. The phone's price, online, is $579.00, but because I'm authorized for an upgrade, and have a 2-yr contract, the phone is only $199 after the instant $100 online rebate.
It very much looks as though most people are seeing their FedEx email notifications about a week or so after placing their order. If you placed your order on the 14th, it's very likely you'll get your tracking number email around the 21st.
Cheers !

I ordered my over the phone because I wasn't due for the 2 year upgrade yet. I had to call customer support because my Storm 2 (the 3rd one they've sent me) was having problems. Told them I didn't want another crappy BlackBerry and just wanted to end my contract with them. They said if I stayed on and renewed for another 2 years they would give me a Droid X at the rebate price. So that may be part of the reason why I'm getting the shaft here. Who knows...

I had a very similar problem... I had a blackberry Storm2 that kept getting replaced... so after a few circles of exchanging... the tech supervisor advised that I exchange my Storm2 again... get the new one and sell it...take the money and use my upgrade to buy the Droid X... so I join the waiting list...

I also had issues with my Storm 1. The battery started to go bad and I could kill it in 10 minutes with a full charge by talking on the phone or using Slacker. It died on Wed 8-11 and never turned on. I went into a Verizon store to see what they could do. We tried a new battery and it still never turned on, its now completely lifeless. I tried to order an X right away but wasnt due for the NE2, I had until 8-27 for that. I called CS and they moved they date to 8-17 so I ordered it on 8-18. Still droidless and phoneless. Hopefully it gets shipped by 8-31.

Looks like we are on the same path... my Storm 1 bricked on me.... would just flash the red light and keep a blank screen.. I was sent the Storm2 but that phone couldn't keep up with me... hoping I'm happy with the Droid X.... my order status confirms it will ship on 8/31...

So I am one of those who is dying for my order to be fulfilled, of course I could have gotten a droid 2 on the spot, but I had to have this. The part that makes the wait so bad, isn't not having the phone, its having to still use my storm. I mean how many times can a phone go bad, I do a hard reset every 2 hours (seriously) I go through 2 batteries a day (and I rarely use the phone for actual calls). IF I don't just do a battery swap, and actually try to power the phone on its charging dock, the screen immediately stops responding correctly to touch and I have to do a hard reset to use it again GRRRRRRRRRRR.
Anyways I am going to stop by the Verizon store I ordered the phone at, and see if the have received new stock (ahead of the customers like myself who came in and handed money over for one) IF they do have them, I will immediately have a serious discussion with the manager. If this store stock policy is truly fact, I am going to be one angry customer.
