New Dorid User

I purchased the Droid X (my first smart phone) last week and was just getting a little bit used to it. I must admit that it is just a little bit overwhelming to this new user.

When I went to get it off the dock this afternoon it said there was a update, it turned itself off and back on  after the update and now things have changed around on it , how often does this happen and would this be the gingerbread that I have been reading about here in discussion.

It now has system version 4.5.596.MB810.Verizon.en.US, Android version 2.3.3, Baseband version BP_C01.09.12P, Kernel version 2.6.32.9-g34b306d, Build number 4.5.1_57_DX5-26, ERI version 5 and PRL version 52299

I have noticed changes to the home screen  and added home profile, and changes to the contact list adding a alphabetical list and search feature that wasn't there before.

yes, and Welcome to the "group"...   you received the lastest software. And yes, there are a few changes that you will note and eventually get comfortable with.  Most of the "big changes" (some call them problems) have been noted here in this forum.  Take some time to Search or browse around as you learn (or stumble onto) the new features.

Thanks for the quick reply. The Verizon store rep talked us into getting two phones alike one for myself and one for my wife we were leaning toward two different ones but he steered us in the right direction so that we can learn together, well I'll learn and she will benefit, I have found Verizon tech help line extremely helpful the two times I had to call to get going in right direction and now that I have found this forum things will clear up a bit quicker I hope. There is a whole new world of language that is used here in the forum. Thanks again for the answer

Welcome to the world of Droid! It can be frustrating at times, but it is usually very satisfying! There are times I want to pull my hair out, and there are times I'm giddy like a little child who just got his first Nintendo lol. My best advice is to read as many forums as possible. I'm sure I can't say any of them on here, but just do a search for them and you will find many. Can I say the Motorola Owners forum? Edit that if needed. But that's a really good forum with a lot of information. If you haven't installed Lookout yet, I would advice to do so immediately. It's a free app that's an antivirus, backup, and lost phone finder in one. It's a truly legit app. Nothing shady about it..

I'm gonna go on a limb and say, this will probably be the last time we see any major update for the X. It took a very long time to get this one, and since the X2 came out, I don't expect any major changes, so you should be fine. It is the infamous GIngerbread update. 2.3.3 ver 4.5.596...

Have fun with your X! If you want any app suggestions, message me and I can give you one hell of a list of recommended apps to try out lol
