New Droid X User- Need Help Please!

I just got the Droid X today and can't figure some things out...please help!

1) Can I assign separate ringtones for different people?  If so, how?

2) Can I assign different alert tones for when I get a text/ voicemail/ picture message/email, etc??

3) When my alert notification goes off right now, it's the same for everything, nothing comes up on my home screen, so how do i know what the alert is going off for?

Any help would be great!  Thanks!

Ahhh, why not?...

For the individual contact ringtone, select a contact, select edit and the keyboard will pop up. Press "back" and the keyboard will disappear. Then select "additional info" and scroll down until you see "ringtone". Press that and you will be given the opportunity to select a ringtone for that contact.

I know that in Gmail, Visual Voicemail, and the Handcent SMS app (and I recommend that folks make Handcent SMS the first app they download - so much better than the stock SMS app), a separate tone can be selected for each app. I do not know about different tones for an SMS message vs a picture message. Perhaps something like Ringo can make this happen, I don't know. I can hardly keep up with 5 different tones as it is, so I'm not concerned with that. I can't imagine the person that's unhappy with their X because they can't select 4 different tones for THEIR OWN 4 EMAIL ACCOUNTS?? Please.....

Finally, when you get any notification, that notification (and what exactly it is) shows up in the notification bar at the top of the screen. You might have to turn that feature on with some apps. You know, there might be some notification apps that could be handy. I'll have to look for those myself...:smileyhappy:

And finally, this can be a big help...This is the Droid X manual....

http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/US-EN/Mobile%20Phones/DROID-X/US-EN/_Documents/Static_Fi...

And this....

http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Consumer-Support/Mobile-Phones/Motorola+DROID+X

is the Droid X support area of the Moto site. There's several things here that you might find useful. Believe or not, there's a Droid X for Dummies series available.

Hope this helps,

tried handcent app.. didnt like it because there was no way to stop it from turning on my screen otherwise it was nice but im a heavy texter and for my screen to light up every text is a bit much.

i like the led color options in the app is there anyway to do this on the phone without an app? the only light i ever see is the green one? why is the led capable of so many colors but only ever shows one?

Hmm...i just looked at the options in Handcent and there are a few options that involve pop-ups turning on the screen. One of those should solve that issue
For a while this summer, Handcent had a slew of updates, seemed like 1 or 2 a week. Perhaps your issue was solved during one of these updates...

Also, I have seen apps for controlling the LED color in the market, but I don't know if they are still there. It would be worth a look...
