Sorry about this, being a long term BB user I've just switched to the Droid X, love the phone, mine is running 2.1 update1, is there a newer version and if so how do I go about getting it.
Thanks

Yes the recent build is 2.2.1, all you have to do is goto Settings/About Phone/System Updates and you should be prompted to update..

Has you starting installing custom apps because I have seen this issue when a conflicting app was in play but this isnt always the case... Try powering device off and back on and then try again, also it may help to be connected to wifi to avoid a corrupt download.
One more thing, if you installed a antivirus try uninstalling and update and then reinstall after update because some security apps cause errors as well.

Strange, a hard reset usually resolve this, if you cant get it to complete you may have to take it to the store and allow them to manually install the update because if the update is downloading there has to be something not allowing it to install.
Try going into SettingsApplications/Development and check the USB Debugger option and reboot..... (This may not have nothing to do with it but I have ran into simular situations installing updates so it is worth a try. After reboot try again.

I dont believe that 2.1 would restrict you from updating because most update files are complete images of the update os... At this moment I am pulling a blank of what could be causing the update to lastest build... You may want to give CS a call and see what they can do to help or take it to your local store to see if they can flash the update for you.

That might be the unauthorized SBF but you have to use caution on using those if you dont understand how they work and things like that can also void your warrenty, if something goes wrong you are out of luck on getting it replaced... Best to stay on the authorized method to avoid any issues for you or device..
