I'm sitting here with my newly activated Motorola Droid X2, and I have been able to send text messages and calls, however I do not have any 3G or 1X service, just bars. I was curious how to fix this??
I've turned on/off airplane mode, wireless, and the like, as well as turned on/off the phone itself.
Help??

Are you sure that the activation went through? Sometimes the activation will fail and you have to go through it again.

Quite sure, as I said was able to receive/send calls and texts and the like. Managed to get a nice tech support guy named Daniel and he solved the issue.
Apparently my phone didn't program right over the airwaves.
Thanks for the suggestion though

My 3g was working this morning, later when I went to go check email in afternoon, I lost my 3g, 1g and most bars on signal strength.. I tried rebooting, pulling the battery, and updating roaming, still nothing!!

Hello kllrbs,
I know it is very important to stay connected. Please try turning the airplane mode on and back off. You can do so by navigating to Settings>Wireless & Networks>Check Airplane mode and wait 10sec after enabled and then disable. You can observe the signal indicator after. I would also like to ask if you have received and installed the newest software update for your device. The version is 4.5.602.MB810. If not please navigate to Settings>About Phone>System Updates and download & install. This version was intended to assist with the connection to 3G. Please let me know if this helps. Thank you.

Mine has been constantly going back and forth from 3G to 1X and I have a Droid X....switching into and out of Airplane Mode should NOT be the solution you give your customers. Supposedly the .602 update was to have fixed the radio problem, but obviously not.
There are plenty of posts all over the internet about quite a substantial # of customers who experience this problem and on the Motorola support forums but not viable solution. GB is so buggy and I'm seriously considering getting rid of this phone and going back to the iPhone. It never had problems with connectivity when I had it on AT&T. I love Android, but geeez I want a phone that works without having to factory reset the phone, put in and out of airplane mode and has a decent battery life, not to mention one that doesn't corrupt my SD card. Unless someone at VZW has an actual fix, there is no point in suggesting to do something like switch in and out of airplane mode

I tried the airplane mod off and on, tried shutting down the phone and taking battery out. Gave up called Verizon. The lady said to not turn the phone off but just take the battery out while it was still in operation. I did not hang up just took the battery out and now everything seems to work. Will post again if issue returns. Thx

keiffers, the airplane mode comment raised my eyebrow, too.
Your other comments might get flamed by those that protect Android and this phone, but do what you have to do.
I really like and really dislike this phone from time to time. I'm not quite ready to turn my back on Android, but the bug issues (app, O.S., or whatever-related they might be) are a nuisance.
The only bigger nuisance is when some throw the blame on us because we aren't apparently smart enough to "troubleshoot" the bugs out. And, I'm not saying that to provoke anyone. I admit, I'm not smart enough apparently, because I've tried them all.
Understand your frustrations.

We are having the same problem with my wife's Droid X since the latest update. I spent an hour on the phone with tech support Saturday explaining that I'd wiped the cache and done a factory restore and still couldn't get 3g and only occasionally 1X. The tech said it was the towers that I was connected to. I also explained that my Droid X sitting next to hers had 4 bars of 3G goodness and he explained that I was on a different tower. We checked all of the settings and did another wipe with no improvement. He put in a trouble ticket for the tower and said that the problem would self resolve when we were out and about and switched towers. On Monday we went to work (same building) and to no one's surprise, still no 3G for her, but I had 4 bars. Called Verizon again and this time the CSR asked my wife if she was running Advanced Task Killer, to which she said yes. The CSR then told her that Advanced Task Killer had corrupted the SBF and that was why even after factory resetting the phone and with no apps installed, we couldn't get 3G. Advanced Task Killer (ATK) had killed the phone and there was no way of fixing it. I'm waiving the **bleep** flag and looking to some of the smart guys on this forum for an answer. I don't see any circumstances where ATK could in some way write to or corrupt the SBF. I think that my wife was being fed a line of crap, but I'd like to know what folks here think. They did offer to send her a refurbed phone, so I'm not going to root and manually replace the SBF.

I'm gonna give that a shot and remove it - I found a post elsewhere that said once they removed ATK from their phone it stopped acting up. I had even seen somewhere else that if you remove Weatherbug from your phone it'll help with the 1X problem, although last night I force closed WB to see if it makes any difference and it was fine all the way until this morning, when I noticed the phone dumped into 1X without WB running....we'll see what happens

One would think that in the dozens of threads on the subject, one of our VZW friends would have mentioned it?
For the record, I've never used ATK. I Googled it for good measure and pulled up all the old arguments from last year about whether a task kilter is needed. Nothing about file corruption being a KNOWN issue.
Since .602, my phone has not repeated the 3G dropping out in the sense that the 3G icon stays on. However, my internet connection has dropped out for 15 minutes, or more at a time (webpages error message: No internet connection).
keiffers, uninstalled WB and Weather Channel for other app troubleshooting reasons.

devildog1983, anything is possible, but count me as skeptical (big surprise). I waste, er spend, way too much time in phone forums and have never read anything about ATK corrupting the SBF.

Only thing I have uninstalled is ATK, and it actually seems to make a difference. I have not noticed it drop into 1X like it had previously....seems to be keeping a pretty solid 3G connection, even inside an office building with plenty of computers and a wireless network going. We'll see what happens going forward. Pluse the phone seems to be running faster as well, more responsive. I still have WeatherBug installed and it's doing ok. Maybe I finally figured out the problem LOL

Well my experiment failed.....my phone is still dropping into 1X and even airplane mode won't fix it. Back to the drawing board

Hello community members! I hope it's okay if I step in to help keiffers! You've done some good research of this issue and some great troubleshooting, keiffers! I'm sorry that your concerns remain unresolved, though. Questions for you: Have you used a phone other than your Droid X in any of the same locations before? If so, did you experience the same fluctuations in signal with a different model?

Experienced the same thing here. No Signal. No Phone calls in or out. Not Internet access. Both Droids.
Must have been a Tower outage. Had signal and intenet over in the Mall.

Dude... same issues here. I have done it all... the factory reset, installing no apps on the phone, everything! I will have full signal, 3G, and use the phone and I will lose all connection. It cycles like crazy and I am sure that it is draining the juice right out of my battery, along with my notification light always staying on. I power down/up my device about 3 times a day. On top of that, the **bleep** thing keeps heating up. 120-130 degrees. This is crap. Still waiting on VZW on Twitter to get back to me.

DroidSw: is right Guys on the X as long as it has the 3G significaton present the bars can be 1 to 4 or 0 an you can still use the X. a T3 Teck also told me this shortly after i recieved my X last year an was learning the new things on it. An i've seen this as well when i'm using my Wi-Fi. as of right now i've got one bar but my wi-fi is working great an i've been streaming Winamp for 12 hours stright. No hiccups.
My old X might be a year old, but she's as good as Gold! B33

Same issues here. Had a Droid X...worked flawless. Got an X2, intermittent 3G, no matter where I am. My old DX never had a problem maintaining a consistent 3G, but this X2 can't do it.
I don't understand it and clearly VW doesn't either. This thread has been going on for months here and other places. Being told by VW to Airplane Mode my phone is not an acceptable answer, akin to being told to hit it a few times on the desk.
Between the random reboots and forced resets to "restart" my 3G, this is ridiculous. And "support" has absolutely no idea how to fix it and don't respond to messages.
And yes I have the latest ROM update.
This is just ridiculous.

I have several friends and coworkers with Droid X's and I've asked them about it, and they said they have not seen any problems. I work in an office building with tons of computers and an internal wireless network, so there is interference, yet my coworker who has a Droid X also has no problem with it going back and forth from 3G to 1X....I've done *228 so many times this week it's not even funny. I need to do a factory reset YET again to see if that does anything, but I'm not sure that will do much of anything except cause me to have to again set my phone up. I'm getting to be an expert at resetting and reinsalling this phone.....not to mention the SD card problems I've had. I hate to say it but I miss my iPhone
The other night I was outside of my normal operating area (competely different tower about 5 miles away and the phone actually completely dumped my 3G....I had absolutely NOTHING although bars showed at 3, yet no 3G or even 1X...stayed that way for 2-3 mins.
