Notification alert does not work for picture messages

Anytime I receive a picture message my notification alert for messages doesn't work.  I usually don't see that I have a picture message until I receive a standard text message.  Is there any way to get notifications on picture messages?  I've had my Droid X since March and this function has never worked.

Which texting app are you using? The stock one or a 3rd party one from the market? If it's the stock one, go into your texting app, push the Menu hard key, and select Messaging Settings. Make sure "Auto-retrieve" is selected and green.

Yes it's selected and green.  It always has been.  Not sure why the picture notification isn't working.

This is the option for MMS and SMS...

 

Text Messages

Messaging >Left Menu Button > Message Settings > Text Messaging > Scroll to notification area of list........  All these control all SMS and MMS accounts

Also make sure to check the option for notification in this menu also or alert will be silenced...

Wildman, in the stock messaging app there is no "Text Messaging" selection under the messaging settings. The only thing I see under there is what I told the OP. I'm at a loss if that's not working.

 

 

The only other suggestion I have is to download a 3rd party texting app from the market. I recommend Handcent, it's very nice to use. If you currently do have a 3rd party texting app that you use, make sure ALL the settings in the stock messaging app are disabled or off.

I'll try and download handcent and see if that works.  Thanks for the advice.
