OTA Gingerbread Update via WiFi or 4G/3G?

I've been reading about people turning on WiFi to receive the update. Will this work? I seem to remember past updates only available over 4G/3G but I could be mistaken.

I'd expect the WiFi won't work initially if what was posted last night on the A word on Gingerbread update thread is accurate and I am interpreting correctly.  Based on that, I'd guess maybe you could do a WiFi pull later Friday?  Maybe next week?

I called the tech dept  for VZW. The guy said the update is ready and being pushed out as of right now it comes out in phases and no telling who gets it when so with that being said I don't think WiFi has anything to do with how quick you get the update..Its all about patience.Maybe forget about the whole situation and it will appear?? LOL
