When I plug my phone into my PC I get a repeating message in the notification bar that it is checking the memory card. This status keeps repeating at 10 second intervals with a notification tone and it will go on forever if I let it. My computer does not see the phones card and if I try to access media share through the pull down notification bar while this is happening it says "The memory card is missing. Insert a memory card to access Media Share". All this just locks up my PC and I have to just pull the usb cable to stop it.
The card is in the phone and when I check it through the phones menu it shows it there with approx 14KB available. I have unmounted, pulled the card and reinstalled it with no luck. Even reloaded the Motorola software in my PC that allows the phone to communicate with the phone.
I poking around the net I see others are having this same issue, but I have found no solutions. Any thought from the forum members here?

wildman, no it is 32 bit. I ran through your suggested driver reload routine one more time on the laptop (vista) this morning. Guess what? All is working well now consistantly! Hopefully it will stay that way.
Thanks again!

What worries me with your description is that your phone only shows 14kb of available space on your SD Card. Did you load a bunch of videos to it?

Have you hard reset recently and if so did you remove the old folders for the apps that you didnt reinstall? I had this issue because the phone constantly tried to access information on the card that is related to apps that wasnt present on unit anymore....
Try deleting some information off card and see if the card reads correctly because the card need space on it to cache the data to communicate the data information, if this does not work then try pulling the card from phone and place in PC card reader, copy all data off the card, format and then place card back in phone and see what happens..
Also try to reinstall driver by following the instructions I posted at http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/USB-Connection-Issue/m-p/326834#M14519

crb79, wildman, my typo I met 14 GB not 14 KB.
When I am hooked up to my PC and I look at the memory card info it shows nothing, as if there were no card in the phone and that is exactly what media share says when it tells me to insert a memory card. When I disconnect from the PC and look at the memory card info again, it shows the 14GB available. This is the same on both my laptop (vista) and desktop (xp) PCs.
Now here is the kicker. I took the phone down to the Verizon store tonight and the rep plugged it into their computer, and all was well. Their computer was running XP, but then so is my desktop. What the heck gives????

ok, I see what it is. You need to install the Motorola Drivers in order to see your card. I thought you meant you could see your card but that it kept unmounting then mounting. Follow the link that Wildman listed, it will give you a walkthru and download location. Let us know if that got you running.

OK, I followed wildman's instructions for reloading the driver and it now my desktop PC (XP os) sees the SD card in the phone and I can access my files. However, still no luck with my laptop PC (vista os) on a CONSISTANT basis. It worked one time and never again. When I reloaded the drivers on my laptop (vista os) I got a dialog box that said that the program may not run correctly and it gave me the option to reload with windows vista compatable components, which I did. Still no luck. Well at least I can work on one of my PCs. Perhaps this is a bug with vista that needs to be addressed in a software update.
Thanks to all who responded.

Glad to know it worked on one of your system, now as for the Vista issue, are you by chance using a 64 Bit version?

Okay, I have a Toshiba 64 bit lap top running Windows 7 and have no problem tethering my phone. When I connect my phone to my laptop, I use "Mass Storage" and nothing else. Toshiba sees Droid as another removable drive and I can move files back and forth as though Droid was a thumbdrive. All that said, and if it works on your laptop runnin Xp, then it must be Vista, the biggest joke Microsoft gave to the computer world. I had Vista, for all of about four months, formatted my hard drive and re-installed Xp. Like I said, I now have Window 7 and it is great.

Thats correct about Vista x64, it should work but the installer has a habit with some x64 systems to install the drivers in the wrong directory and when this happens the installation has to be modified to correct this situation so the system recognize the installed location of the drivers, this is a issue with x64 operating systems with a number of applications, I believe this happens because of the order that the drivers are installed, if a user tries to access Mass Storage before the Charging drivers loads, a part of the drivers that the system needed was overridden that causes connection issues...
