Phone will not charge battery

My Droid X will not charge when I plug it in. It seems as if it isn't even recognizing that it is plugged in. It does not show that it is charging. I have pulled the battery numerous times and I have tried charging in safe mode. Nothing is working. I am down to 5% battery now and am keeping it turned off until I know what to do.

Also, recently, the camera keeps turning on by itself and even taking pictures, without any prompting what so ever. Are the problems related?

Help!

Sounds like possibly the charger is bad. Do you have a USB cable to connect your phone to a PC?  Maybe you have a car charger to try? Or maybe a friends charger?

Just guessing though....

Yea, I tend to agreen with Dirk ... sounds like a Charger issue.  How old is the phone?

As far as the Camera thing -  once you get it Charged to the point to test, I would put it in Safe mode and see if the problem persists. That's a strange one and sounds like an APP introduced the problem.

Are you using the charger which came with your cell phone or a third party charger. If you are using a third person charger, that's the problem. most, if not all, such chargers can ruin your phone faster than dropping it onto a cement floor from the roof of a high rise. If you are using a third party charger, this may also be causing the camera problem. Another question, if you are using the charger and USB chord which came with your phone, are you charging it in a plug in or are you using your computer to charge it? Using the computer is a bad idea because you are not getting the power you need for a charge, especially if you let your battery run down less than 20%.

Thanks for the responses.

I have tried using the charger that came with the phone, my car charger, the USB chord and another charger at the Verizon store. My phone doesn't recognize when any of them are plugged in or build up a charge. I have had this problem briefly  a couple of times in the past, but it eventually went back to normal. Doesn't seem to be doing that this time... Whoops! I spoke too fast. I tried plugging it in again just now, and I'll be damned if it isn't charging. Strange. Needless to say, I don't trust it anymore and would love to find the root cause. Very inconvenient!

Given what you have told us, it certainly sounds like hardware and not software. It could be a loose connection, a bad phone plug, or a dozen other things. I do not believe that it is apps connected or even OS connected. I would try to get it exchanged.
