Possessed Phone

My Droid is totally possessed.
The touch screen will open up apps all its own. If I'm trying to text, it will type letters without even touching the screen, and the screen will uncontrollably scroll through the contacts and text message screens. This is the second time this has happened to me, and therefore, the second phone (both the Droid) I've been through.
The first time I went through this, I brought the phone to the Verizon store and they couldn't find what was wrong with it. They tried everything from rebooting and taking out the battery, to a hard reset and they still had no answers. So therefore they sent me a new phone.
My contract is up in January and my fiance has AT&T. I have never had any problems until this year with Verizon and I am thinking about leaving and having the family plan with AT&T.
Is anyone else having these problems? If I go back to Verizon, are they just going to send me another older Droid phone?
What do I do?

I've had the bad luck of having four Droid's all doing the same thing as you are describing. They just keep sending me refurbs until the Bionic comes out.

my Droid 2 Global is doing the same thing. I have removed the battery and rebooted several times. The phone is completely Unusable. It appears to have random screen entries, flashing and making calls, sending text with human intervention.
Here is another thread somewhere in the forum that mentions the same problem. One can only hope that Verizon and Motorola tech support types read these forums!?!?!!?
Q: how can you reset to factory settings if you cannot work the menu's and screens?

I apologize in advance if this isn't the correct area of the forum.
My Motorola Droid (OG) started acting up. At any time my screen goes crazy. Either in an app or just sitting at the home screen my phone screen will start flickering. Not flicker in the sense of turning off but stuck between home screens, notification bar randomly coming down then up. Then random apps will get opened without me doing anything!?!? once the app opens it seems to have a mind of its own, automatically scrolling and clicking about 5 more times. I can't do a thing. Calls still come in but I need to cross my fingers the the touch screen works.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas what's wrong? I feel like the touch screen is just wearing out. I've had my OG since the release in Nov. 09. sort of attached I don't want a new one haha

Hi DavePM,
I understand your discontent; I'd be frustrated if I experienced all the issues outlined in post with my phone. It sounds like a 3rd party application conflict/error is causing the issues.
I see that you are not able to do a factory reset due to screens switching uncontrollably. Try running your phone in Safe Mode should allow you to perform a Factory Reset on your phone. Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this troubleshooting step is necessary to determine whether a 3rd party application is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue.
Please keep in mind that performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.
Additionally, please note that your phone includes a one year warranty and you can get a Certified Like New Replacement within 12 months of purchase if necessary. Find process details at this LINK for your convenience.

Hi,
Its an annoying problem but it is easy to fix and does not require a factory reset.
I was having the same problem. See if you can get the phone to calm down long enough to give it commands (maybe a few reboots or pull the battery and let it sit for a min or two - some people mentioned partially opening the keyboard worked for them). Once you are back in command, go to:
Settings --> Applications --> Manage Applications
Then, click on the "All" tab. Scroll down to "Multi-touch Keyboard"
Then touch "Clear Data" and "Clear Cache" (if it is availible).
This should take care of your problem. In my experience it has and the phone is working smoothly again.
