Questions about the Droid and Music?

Hi Everyone!
Here's my delimma... I currently have a Motorola Q phone AND an Ipod. Both of which are on their last legs. I'm due for an upgrade and had a chance to play with the new Droid for a bit in the mall this weekend - it was FUN to play way!
SO! I'm thinking instead of buying a new phone AND a new ipod, I'd just buy the Droid and that way one device does it all!
But I have a few questions...
1. Can songs that have been downloaded from the itunes stores be put on the phone? One verizone store said no, one verizon store said yes. Then the ipod customer support site said I could try to upgrade to itunes plus then convert my files from itunes to itunes plus, and that "might" work.
2. If I can't use itunes, then how do you get music downloads? Is there another music download program that works with this phone? Like if I hear a song from this point forward on the radio, is there an app or some site or something other than itunes to go to to download the song onto the phone? I dont' care about videos, just the music to listen to.
3. Is it realistically good to use a cell phone as an "Ipod" so to speak? I listen to music on my current ipod at least 8 to 10 hours a day while working. Is it realistic to use a cell phone that way too? Or should I stick to keeping them separated? Does anyone else out there use their cell phone to listen to music a LOT on?
Thanks for your time! I hope I hear back from someone soon! Dawn

Yes. You can.

You can either use some third party program, (I.E LimeWire), or download the app Music Online Lite. Gives free music downloads.

It depends, to be honest. If you're both heavily using your phone, AND playing music I wouldn't suggest it. However, if you're just going to be using your phone for music, moderately using the phone, it's just fine (of course there are ways to prolong the life of your battery too.) You should be perfectly fine, get the swiss army knife phone!

Hi Supitsmike!
Thanks so much for your help! During the day currently, I use my current cell phone to play on facebook from time to time and text / email some. I usually only actually talk on my phone in the evenings. So I wouldn't be listening to music AND talking on the phone at the same time.
Is that what you mean?
