R2D2 Gingerbread Update Issues

I got my r2d2 as soon as it came out. I've back up all my data and attempted to update to gingerbread. The update failed. It would get about 1/4 of the way through the update and then show a triangle symbol and then reboot. So then i performed a hard reset...and tried again...no dice.
Is there anything else i can try?

I went to my local Verizon company store rather than a Verizon contractor store. They tried a hard reset followed by removing the battery then doing the update. This failed too. Now they are sending out a warranty replacement which the salesman said should have gingerbread already installed.

do a safe mode restart, you do that by holding ok and powercycling your device. Hold ok until R2 goes away. after it downloads and installs t2d2 stays on the screen for about 5 minutes dont worrry if it takes longer than an hour than you can worry

Even after restarting in safe mode, I still have the problem described by the original poster.
I can download the update, but when the phone reboots to apply it, the progress bar gets to about 25% before the screen shows an exclamation point in a triangle, and the phone reboots. After starting up, an 'update failed' message is shown.
If I just couldn't get the update, I'd live with it for now.
But during the night my phone keeps trying (and failing) to install the update, and the reboots sometimes cause my alarm to not go off. Which is pretty bad.
Any other ideas?

It looks like the answer is to flash it back to the original factory image, and then the update should work.

Apparently discussing the fix for Verizon's screwed up update violates the terms of service.
I'm all ears, Verizon: How can we fix this then?

I got my gingerbread update on 9/10 with not problems. I have the R2-D2 Droid 2 and it has never been rooted. Since the update my phone randomly reboots itself at least 2-3 times a day. And being that you can't silence the R2 boot animation this is extremely bothersome. Also the phone tends to run alot hotter than before and the stock music player wont play .wav files and tends to crash alot. The GPS doesnt seem to locate as well and the icons on the task bar are hard to read, Blue on Black really???. I have tried the *228 updates, a hard reset, a soft reset, uninstalling all apps that arent necessary. If anything it gets worse everyday. I really hope Verizon or Motorola are listening to these complaints and working on a fix.
