Randomly powering down

Just started using Droid X this weekend.  Powers down frequently.  Handset stationary, just powers off.  Is this symptomatic of this model?  I've never had a phone do this.  Should I exchange or is this common?

I think if you scan this (or the MOTO) forum, you'll see some people getting random reboots.  Is yours actually rebooting, or powering down and requiring you to push the Power button to start it back up? Is it reproduceable? How often does it occur?

A few things to try before taking it back to Verizon.

- Have you installed a bunch of new APPS from Market?  If so, you might want to Uninstall many of them just to see if the problem goes away.

- If it happens fairly regularly, how about putting it in "SAFE MODE" and run in that mode for a day or so to see if it happens again. If it DOES, then I would definitely take it to Verizon and have them give you a new phone. To get into SAFE MODE:

1. Power Off the phone

2. Press and HOLD the Menu Button (far left button)

3. Continue to HOLD the Menu button and Power up the phone - do not release the Menu button.

It will eventually come up saying "SAFE MODE" in lower left corner.  Release the Menu Button.

To get OUT of this mode, just Power Off and back on as normal.

Doing this would rule out many/most of the 3rd party APPS.

Good luck.   (PS - Mine never reboots on it's own other than when I installed one particular APP - which I've backed out.)

To say I've downloaded apps is an understatement!  I have a 5 yr old who thinks she got a new toy with every free app she could find.  I've put the phone into safe mode and will update with a message in a day or so regarding my progress with this resolution.  I'm confident its the apps.  In the message you suggested to get rid of them (the apps).  I was unable to find how to delete apps.  Could you give me instructions for deleting apps?  I found that Grooveshark has some ROUGH (for 5 yr old) titles in their "popular" songs and was unable to find how to get rid of that app.

Yea, I would take that into Verizon and reproduce the problem for them in SAFE MODE ...   They should give you a NEW replacement since you just got the phone.   Good luck.
