Starting a new discussion thread since the previous one has been locked and I'm still curious to hear people's experience with the update. I continue to delay downloading it because of all the concerns that have been expressed here.

It was downloaded to my phone but I haven't installed it yet for the same reason. After three or four days I finally stopped getting the install reminders every 30 minutes. Now I'm wondering how to access it if I decide that I do want to install it.

I still have not received the FP1 update as of 3/30/12 at 6:46am PDT.
Note to moderator: What's up, why the delay? Do you know??? Can you tell me in a private message...please?

PS, KMSTAR, try this. Touch: settings>about phone>system updates.

jco23,
It appears that we both received the 29MB FP1 update. The Verizon announcement said that the FP1 update was 85MB.
You're over on the Android forum and the other Charge forum, did you hear exactly what the difference was betwen the 29MB and the 85MB FP1 updates?
I still wonder why the two of us automatically received the OTA 29MB version from Verizon???

Thanks Jerry. I'll try that if I decide to install it. Still not sure, but it is nice that the constant reminder has gone away. Hope you get an answer from the moderator...seems like the best way to get their attention is to post something that violates the TOS

Still upset that the static/popping hasn't been resolved and that they removed scrolling backgrounds.

Sorry to be so dumb, but what do you mean by the scrolling backgrounds? Is that the live wallpapers that have disappeared or something else?

this update file is nearly 30MB - will this count against our data quota? for those of us that are on the 300 MB plan, this makes a huge difference.
this morning, my phone is showing 72MB of data, when it was at 5MB at 6am. It's trying to download the update file twice.

Be very careful. Installed on Monday, and today (Friday) the phone shut off and rebooted by itself BUT it is currently stuck on rebooting. Went to Verizon and was told phone was "fried" needed to replace.

I like everything about the update EXCEPT that my phone no longer charges with my car charger. It's an old motorola one that has the same ampage/voltage as the official Samsung charger, so I don't know what gives. Anyone else have a similar experience with 3rd-party car chargers?

Update: after a couple of restarts, the car charger now works. Happy with the update again

I've had no problems with the update. It definitely shortened the boot up time. The one thing I had hoped the update would fix (buzzy, broken speaker sound in the earpiece on some calls) wasn't. Although I'm not really sure why I thought it would be. Wishful thinking I guess. I guess I'm stuck for another 16 months trying to understand what people are saying. I'm most definitely not going to spend $500+ for full price on a new phone.

The squealing/screeching is still there for me too. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

PreceptorJR,
Try rebooting your phone THREE times in a row.

No noticable differences on mine except that the puzzle piece is gone for the entire theme (yeah finally getting over that one) and also the new screen tends to want to glitch. Turned it on this morning and went to unlock and it started spazzing out. Restarted, verified everything on it but issue still randomly persists.

Finally installed the update this morning. So far nothing disastrous has occurred, though answering a call was a challenge at first and there seems to be a noticeably increased screen lag. Appears to hold onto 4G a bit better but my boot-up time remains unchanged and unbearably long (several minutes). Puzzle piece unlock is gone but I was prepared for that.

4/1/2012
Everybody,
I received my FP1 update. Be careful when you are notified to read the entire (ultra small type font) message you get. Mine said that it was ready to install but my battery was to low. I checked install later and charged the battery (it was at 30%). After 75 minutes of charging it was at 86% so I installed it. All went well.
When it finished I rebooted my phone THREE more times. I say, if you have installed the newest FP1 update reboot your phone THREE times more before you test it. With the GB 2.3.6 I have seen folks say that a feature was not working and later it started to work, probably after several reboots. I already saw this same comment for the FP1 update. Believe me, you need to reboot your phone at least three times more after ANY software update. Anyhow, what do you have to lose?
So far everything is working perfectly.
One other observation, Verizon's announcement said the update was 85Mbytes but the update that I received was only 29Mbytes. I did see where someone said that the 29Mbyte update only included the radios (modems).
Does anyone know what's up on this 29MB versus 85MB.
I have the new screen lock slider and also I can still scroll between my 5 application and 2 home screens.

Jerry, my update is also 29.3MB. Still debating about whether to install it, but if I do I will take your advice and do the three reboots. Thanks for the tip.

KMStar,
The 29.3MB FP1 update is not the full update because I can still scroll between screens and when I reach the end of a list the orange glow still appears. It may only be the radios but I don't know.
Make sure your phone is fully charged and set the phone down in an area that is giving you a good signal.
Both mine and JCO23's worked well with the 29.3 FP1 update.

Jerry, how do you know the size of your update? Once installed, is it possible to find out? Do you show the kernel version as 2.6.35.7-FP1? And the baseband version as i510.06 V.FP1 and SCH-I510.FP1?
