Removing the Samsung Charge's screen scratch protector plastic shield

I decided to remove the "Anti Glare protective plastic sheet" that Verizon installed on my Charge phone when I purchased it.

I did some in depth checking by looking at several forums as well as talking with both Verizon and Samsung and the Samsung Charge does NOT have Gorilla Glass so I understand the risks.  I'll just have to be careful.  My previous phone was a Samsung phone with an open screen (no fold down cover) and in 3+ years of use there were NO scratches (not even one).

Here is what convinced me.  I went on the Verizon site and searched for screen protectors.  I found that Verizon has an official warning that the Samsung Charge phone touch screen may NOT work as it should if you have a screen protector installed.  In fact they had the same warning for more than a dozen other Verizon smart phones.

First, the screen is noticeably brighter especially outdoors and my eyes need it brighter when outdoors.

Second, now when I touch an icon I NEVER get a miscue, it always goes immediately to whatever I touch.  Before, once in a while I had to touch an icon twice or in extreme cases three times although this did not happen very often so it was not a problem.

Third, camera pictures and videos look much better.  Even WEB sites look better and the colors look much better.

So far I like it.  I can always put one back on because 3 screen protectors came with my new Charge phone..

I would appreciate any comments especially if I have overlooked something important other than the screen now being more vulnerable to scratching.

If you are extremly carefull, then you will probably be ok, it is still recommended hower. If you place a phone in your pocket with keys or other items that are metal, you run risks of scratching it. If you ever drop your phone, and it happens, a screen protector can protect from unwanted damage (the case is another story).

You never know when something can be dropped on top, it falls off a table or end table and hits the side of it, you fumble it and it falls onto dirt or the ground.

There are better screen protectors then verizon sales, some thinner material and allwo full transfer of finger movements (mine do at least) some anti glare better then others that don't down grade the image a whole lot.

Just be carefull, it's the unplanned things that will damage it.

FOLLOW UP:  It has been 5 weeks since removing the scratch resistant protector plastic sheet from the phone's display.  So far no scratches or any other blemishes.  I really love it.

Remember I carry the phone in a horizontal belt case so it's well protected, no keys or other things to scratch the display.  The belt case I bought is made for Charge phones that are using the fatter 2600 or 3500 mAh batteries.  BTW, my 3500 mAh battery fits in the Charge phone using the original phone back that came with the charge phone.  The original back looks much nicer that the one that came with the 3500 battery.  Also, the slots for sound on the back are larger on the original phone's back.

I did get a wrist strap to "hopefully" insure that I never drop the phone especially when placing it in the case or removing it from the belt case.  Thank you HoustonHeart for mentioning unplanned things.   The strap sits on the upper edge of the phone as I put it in the belt case and the cover with its magnetic clasp holds the strap out of the way.  When the phone is in the belt case you cannot even see the wrist strap and the strap is the first thing I grasp as I remove the phone from the belt case.  It works nice and it's easy to get used to. I love my wrist strap too.

Best regards,

Jerry,

I'm glad it's working out for you.  I had the VZ protector when I first got my Charge and I didn't like it either.  I put a Zagg shield on and I have no issues with touch sensitivity, brightness or color saturation.  I am very pleased with the Zagg.  I also use the belt clip, but sometimes carry the phone in my pocket.  Just recently I noticed a big gouge in my Zagg.  Boy am I glad I put it on.  I inadvertantly put my phone in the same pocket with my keys.

With all that I said above I wish I could go 'naked', but I am afraid I would screw it up with one of those unforeseen things like my keys.  Good luck to you Jerry!
