Restoring old apps into a new phone

My boyfriend just received his second new Droid X phone in two months. He backed up everything on his phone, but when he went to put in the card and battery into the new phone nothing transferred to the new phone. He had all free apps and games etc. Is there anyway to save those apps and transfer them from phone to phone? It's so frustrating trying to get them all back.

All he has to fo is log into Google and then open Market and click left menu buttom and select My Apps from list, from heat he can click the apps that he wants to reinstall...   Another nice app is MyBackup from market, it can back apps up and then all he has to do is install Backup and then restore all apps with app.

To my knowledge, Google would only back up paid apps from the market.  Free apps you would have to track down and reinstall manually.  Was I told wrong about this?

It also does free apps.  The problem is when you close Android Market and you didn't re-download the free apps they poof from your menu.  So if open the market, logged in, and you accepted the terms(it will close for some reason) all your "free" apps will poof from the list.  Best to use the gmail app to log into Google services and from there open market(usually the market will not close).  Your "free" apps should be in there.

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

@tyklein, only the games and apps you purchased will be backed up by Google. The free apps and games will not be backed up and you will have to download them again.

Hope this helps, please feel free to contact us back if you need more assistance.

Just get MyBackup, it will make things a lot simplier next time you format or replace any device.

Is it true that with the app MyBackupPro, you must renew the license every year?

I have never read that and dont see why you would have to, this may be dealing with the online backup service but I do not use that option.  I read the ahreement when I bought the app and did not see anything that ever stated you would have to renew anything.
