Ringtones

Hey everyone! I just got my Droid X and I am super excited, it is my first smart phone!! I downloaded a ringtone from the Verizon Wireless site and it sent it to my phone via text message, but now I can't seem to get it to go anywhere else. On my last phone all I had to do was hit set as ringtone and that was it, it does not give me the option to do that (that I can find). So it is just sitting in my text messages. Any suggestions? Thanks

Ok so heres the trick, You have to open the message and let it play ALL THE WAY THROUGH and then you can long press it and it will ask you if you want to save it.....holy geez....lol. Thank you for your help!

Try long pressing the attachment. A menu should come up with an option to set as ringtone. You may, after that, need to set your ringtone in your settings menu.

It did not come as an attachment. It is a text message and when I open it there is just a black screen with a little play button at the bottom, I can not click arounfd it or on it or all it does is play the ringtone!!! this is so frustrating. But thank you!

Then long press the message itself (don't open it first). If your messaging app is like mine, when you first open it, you should have a list of threads, listed by contact name. From there, you should be able to go into the thread that contains your ringtone message. This is where you long press it to get the menu.

Just go to your settings and then go to sound and display. go to ringtones and then open it and scroll down to the bottom it will be numbers and letters, not the name of the song you downloaded, then set it as your ringtone. Pretty easy once you find it....lol. My first smart phone too!

Apparently I don't have it saved correctly...lol.

When I do the long hold, I get a screen that says "search for...........using amazon mp3, browser, music or youtube".

What did i do??

Ohh...wait!  I think I did it.  I went to music somehow, found it there.  Clicked and hit the one key that comes up with options.  It said set as ringtone.  So, I guess what I did was set it as my phones ringtone, (didn't want that technically) but now i can select it from the list to set as my brother's ringtone.  lol

Geesh, this is complicated.  (it doesn't help I'm technologically challenged either)

Thanks!

that works too, I think you just took the scenic route, but once you have it you can click on ure bro in your contacts and set it as his ringer. good luck

I cannot get mine to work either.  I purchased a ringtone & received a confirmation w/the ringtone attached.  I saved the audio but have no idea where it went.  It is not listed w/other ringtones.  I have a HTC Droid Incredible.  HELP!!!  It's driving me nuts

Is there a way to rename the ringtones from the file number, to the song name?

You guys are doing it the hard way...:smileyhappy:

Go to the app market and download a free app called RingDroid. It will show all all of music files on your phone. You can even edit the length of the file, if you wish. When done, select "save". A window will open, asking whether to save the file as a ringtone or a notification tone. Make your choice, hit "okay", and you are done. You will find your new tone in the sounds listings.

There ya go,
