Can I use different ringtones for diferent contacts.

Yes. If you edit the contact and expand the "more" thing you can assign contact specific ringtones.
In my opinion it's easier to download ringdroid from the market.

Creating ringtones is easier with ringdroid, but how is it easier to assign them to a specific contact?

If you have the songs on the sd card, you just go to contacts, menu - edit - additional info - assign ringtone.

How do you use ringdroid to assign to a specific contact? I don't see that option.

When you save it gives you an option to assign it to a specific contact. A son as it's saved it gives you the option to make it the default or to assign it to a specific contact. Usually you don't really need to have the entire song assigned, but the part of the song that you want to hear.

I haven't actually used it to create ringtones, I use it to edit the mp3's and create notifications.

I already have all the ringtones I want.
