SD Card Issue

I've had the phone for 4 days.  Last night I put phone on charger and the phone was normal.  Wake up this morning and all of a sudden I have an icon on top left corner with an exclamation point.  I open to see what it is and it says "Blank SD Card".  All my ringtones and notifications seem to be gone and I have no access to them.  I go to settings and click SD Card and Phone settings and it shows that my storage information is unavailable.

I took battery and card out and tried rebooting and still it seems to be unrecognized.

Not sure what the heck happened while I was asleep but now I can't figure out why it's doing this.

Have others had this issue and if so is there a setting I need to fix or should I just assume that its defective and now I gotta deal with some jerk at verizon?

Did you have it plugged into your computer? Did you unplug it when something was transferring to the card? Looks like you have to reformat the SD card. You can take the card out to see it there is any damage to the metal part. As for Verizon CS, I've never had a problem with them. More than likely if you call them they will grant you a new device.

I didn't mean to say verizon jerk cause they usually are helpful.  I just don't want to have to deal with them and I'm just a little PO'd because I'm already having issues.

Anywho, I have never once plugged this into a computer yet and I did nothing special last night before I went to bed.  I simply plugged it into the charger and that was that.

Not sure how any damage could have been done to it.  Wasn't near water and I didn't drop the phone or do anything out of the ordinary.  I guess i can take it out look at it again.

If you go into Settings > SD card, unmount the SD card and then turn off your phone. Take out the SD card, pull out the battery and hold the power button to get rid of any residual power. Reinsert the SD card and battery then power on your phone. See if that works. If that doesn't work, do a factory reset. In the event you have to call Verizon, they will ask you to do all of this anyway, this way you will be on and off the phone with them.

nevermind.. i found it!  im just going to do that..

Sucks because I've added a lot of ringtones and stuff and have done a lot of nice customizations to it.  Oh well.. I can just start over and it's not a big deal as long as it works!

Well even after the factory reset it still doesn't recognize the card... bottom line... I think there's an issue which means I'll probably need a new phone..

All efforts seem to be exhausted on my end as far as trying to fix myself....  grrrrrr

Maybe, with any luck, it is the card and not the phone. I am a photographer and have had a couple cards go bad on me (In camera, not phone). So it does happen. So If you are near one, I would take it into a V-store and have them check it before Verizon tells you to send the whole phone back.

I had the exact same issue this morning.  I could not re-format the card and a factory reset did not work.  I was on the phone with Tech Support for over an hour, still no luck.  One of my co-workers has the Droid X also, so we took the card out of his phone and tried it in mine, success.  I went to the local VZW store and they replaced the card.  Being in the computer business, I suspected it was the card and I was right.   The phone even power cycles just fine now.  It was freezing up after the Froyo Update.  Unfortunately, no data was recoverable from the card.  Fortunately, I had all my data backed up on the computer.   Nobody in the office had a card reader that could read a card that small so I could not check to see if a computer could read the card.

Currently spending the evening reloading and configuring all my apps.
