SD card issues

I just got this phone less than two weeks ago and I put a few songs on the SD card, just to see how it worked. The next day I was browsing some app and the the phone locked up and shut down.

When I was finally able to power it back up, it said that the SD card was "damaged" I re-booted it and the SD card came up as being unsupported and needed to be re-formatted.

I wasn't too concerned because at this point all I'd had on there was the few songs and not much else.

The problem didn't seem to persist for about a week after that, until last night when I was downloading an app and when it went to install it, the device immediately shut down.

When I powered it back up, the SD card was again not recognized.

What's going on here?

You mentioned re-booting the card was that reformatting the SD card?  If not, from the home page go to settings>SD card & phone storage and click on Format SD card.  So far I don't have any other ideas.

Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to re-booting the phone, not the SD card, bad grammar on my part.

The problem is that it keeps telling me I need to reformat the card for no good reason. It shouldn't be doing this two weeks out of the box.

Elshupacabra,

There are a lot of things in this world that should not be BUT it wants to be reformatted so I suggest that you reformat it before you get a lot of stuff stored on it.

But if it keeps needing to be reformatted once a week, I'll never be able to get a lot of stuff stored on it. This is the second time this has happened.

Try this if you haven't already tried it.  Go to settings>cd card & phone storage and click on Unmount SD card.  Then remove the battery and remove the SD card. Wait one minute.  Reinstall SD Card and the battery.  Go to settings>cd card & phone storage and click on Mount SD card.  Last, RE-Format the SD card.  If this does not work you may have to go back to the Verizon store for a new card or a new phone.  I'm fresh out of ideas.

Elshupacabra-I hate to hear you are having problems with your new phone shutting down while browsing applications.

You most definitely should not be experiencing this at all.

You said something that stuck out to me; You said once the phone came back on it displayed a message

SD card was "damaged"

Did you perhaps try inserting the SD card in another phone or even a computer (via adapter) to see if you get a similar message? If so, that lets us know the SD card is defective and needs to be replaced.

Or, better yet, if you do have another SD card, place that in your phone and try to add/access songs & access applications and see if you get the same error about the SD card being damaged. If you do get the same message with a different SD card, it will be the phone that needs to be replaced.

Please keep me posted as to what happens, you can send me a PM with your findings.

I posted in another post as well, but I am having the same issue where it says "SD card was Damaged" I tried using an adaptor to open it on the computer and it never appeared for me to look at, I tried in another phone and it made the phone freeze up.

I tried a different SD card in the phone and that SD card before wasn't registering but is registering now. I tried it before taking the battery out for a minute and it didn't work, I tried after taking the battery out for a minute and it did work (the 4GB card from old phone)

I am trying the 32GB card again right now, after trying it in the computer and a different phone with no luck. in the Notification window it says its "damaged"  and if I try to mount it in the settings it says across the top of the screen "Black External SD card"

Is there any way to get the photos from the damaged card? the only reason I noticed it was today I was about to hook the phone up to the computer to download the pictures, last night it was fine, today it is "damaged"

HELP!!

Legomaniacj,

I understand how important it is to be able to recover your pictures from the SD card. It sounds as if the card itself is damaged. If you are still getting this error, and the card cannot be read on either phone or computer, you may need to use a third party computer program to restore the files. Do a Google search for Card Recovery or Restore SD card for options. I had this issue happen once with an SD card for my digital camera and was able to restore the pictures. Many of these programs allow you to evaluate the information on the card for free, but there is a charge for recovering the information. After you have recovered the information, try formatting the card.

If still not working, you do have a warranty for the SD card that came with the phone. If the card is a SanDisk card, call SanDisk at 866-726-3475. If it has no name, contact Samsung at 888-987-4357.
