I have the exact same problem...it's maddening. Not just v-mail, any call where you need to press digits during the call and the screen just blacks out and/or flickers after the first 2 or 3 digits and further keypresses are ignored.
Just tried your solution - botting back up now. Hope it works.

Nope - no joy. Same problem after reset.
Guess I'll need to call tech support....again. Sigh...I think an OS update is desperately needed on this phone. I'm still within my 14 day return window. I like the phone, but if it's going be this buggy I may just return it and get something else as there does not appear to be an OS update in our near future after reading thru the forums here & elsewhere...

Riffrafter,
Try to enter it automatically. Go to menu>settings>call settings and touch Voicemail "Settings for My Carrier." Then enter *86 followed by a pause (this inserts a comma) and follow that with your password. Usually one pause comma works but if needed add two commas.
On a GOOD phone, which you seem NOT to have, this will enter the password automatically so you do not have to enter it yourself..

Mine's been doing the same thing for months. If I hold the phone upside down then the screen stays active long enough for me to enter the password and retrieve messages.

Mine did that too, drove me nuts until I did what Jerry F said above.
