Screen Flickering

Over the last few days I've noticed that when I bring my phone out of sleep or finish a call and bring the phone away from my ear (thus reactivating the screen) the screen will momentarily flicker (less than a half second) before coming back on.  It seems to be working fine once it gets beyond this flicker but I'm worried that it's something that could get progressively worse if it's a hardware issue.  Any thoughts?

Hello wataylor04,

I would recommend you remove the battery from your handset and leave it out for about 30 seconds. Then re-insert the battery and check if this fixes what you are experiencing. Let me know if this helps.

I am having the same issue, and have had it looked into at a Verizon store. The associate thought one of my apps (task manager) might be the issue, but even after removing it, the screen continues to flicker coming out of sleep mode and during calls when the screen transitions.

I've removed the battery for 30 seconds as suggested and the problem still persists.

I've been having the same problem. I figured it wasn't a big deal. But I figured I'd check the forums to see if i was the only one. Apparently not. The flickering looks like a black screen with white lines for me is that what you are seeing?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. An easy way to see if an application is causing this is by booting the phone into safe mode. This disables any 3rd party applications. First press and hold the power button to restart. Once the Samsung logo appears press and hold the Menu button until safe mode appears at the bottom of the screen. See if the screen still flickers in safe mode. If it doesn't try removing any new applications you have downloaded. If it is still flickering it may be a hardware issue and the device will need to be replaced.

Has anyone found the app that could be causing the flickering? If so what was it? And if it wasn't an app did you have to replace you Charge? Thanks.

I have had this since day one. I went back to Verizon just days after they replaced my Fascinate with the Charge complaining of this and other issues. They refused to take it back. We asked if we could get one of the other 2 models they had offered in place of the Fascinate and were told the "promotion" was over because they had solved the problems with the Fascinate. I have a disability in my hands and it is very difficult to find a phone I can use. I told him I'd happily pay the $35 to get the Fascinate back then (although....all I wanted al along was another Fascinate...Verizon forced me to take a different model. Dont see why I should have to pay to get my original phone!) Still told us we couldnt do it. Even called the "operations manager" out who concurred.

It isn't caused by an app....and they wouldnt replace the Charge!

Dear mom,

Did the VZW people tell you at the time you received your Charge in exchange for the Fascinate (I assume that is the "promotion" you mentioned) that you would be restricted in your choices of what to do if the Charge had problems??  This seems like a very poor way to treat customers.  Did you try to get another Charge, to see if you had a defective unit?

Same thing. It is obnoxious because every time I see it I think the display will die.

DIffently have it checked, or see if an app has control causing it. THat isn't normal it shoudl be a smooth on with no flicker from stand bye, off or and mode.

I have been having the same problems with my samsung charge phone. I recieved it 4 days ago and it does the flicker and veritcal white lines upon waking up the device. I tried removing the battery and 4g card and I even went into a verizon store and they did a restore on the phone... nothing has worked!  I just called verizon and the rep I spoke to was very helpful. He actually went and got a charge and started testing that one to see if it had the same issues. It did! The rep also looked on the Samsung Charge's "known issues" list and this problem was NOT listed. So we need to make it a known problem! He said he was going to file a report on the issue and send it to Samsung. He also said if enough of the reports were filed from other users then samsung would create an update to solve the screen issue. So if your having this problem then call verizon and have then write a report! My phone is still withing the 14 day period to exchange and so Im going to see if another Samsung charge will be any better...keeping my fingers crossed.

Hey everyone, I have been having this issue as well. I seemed to have made it stop on my charge. I was using cool jazz font....my wifes uses rosemary and doesn't flicker....changed my font from cool jazz to rosemary and bam....it hasn't flickered since. Also I turned off all animations in hopes to save battery. My wifes phone has all animations on and no screen flicker....but if changing fonts doesn't work try turning off the screen animations. Hope this helps

Well....it still happens. Just not as much it seems and not as bad. It mainly happened upon waking up the phone on the home screen...it doesn't really do it on that anymore but does a lil when going from the browser to the home screen and from the apps list to the home screen. But it still seems to be an improvement.
