From CNN,
http://money.cnn.com/2011/05/18/technology/android_security/index.htm
Only about 3% of Android users have the latest versions of the operating system, but Google said Android users running older versions will get a fix "in the next few days." Users don't need to take any action, and the patch will roll out globally.

This issue is overblown. Once it hits the mainstream media, you'll notice it always takes on an alarmist tone. The issue has already been posted on this forum:

Considering there have been leaks of the Gingerbread OS for the Droid X in recent months, it should get fixed at some point for the owners with a Droid X.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

The one thing about situations about software development, all OS has vulnerabilities that hasn't been found because any user that has knowledge of a app or OS understands that with enough time you can access parts of the software that was once secure.
For me to get worked up over reports like isn't really beneficial because vulnerabilities will happen and I am sure that a fix will be released to resolve the concerns. I do not see this effect Android because Windows has so many security flaws but still is one of the larges used OS in the market..
I do not think I can say this enough but as OS become more and more popular it will become targeted more by hackers, I don't view this as a bad thing because this just acknowledge Android growing popularity..
I will sit and await the security fix that will be released to address the issue.
