Select device administrators

Hello All,

I did do a search in this forum and the results all pertained to email.

Droid 2 --> Home app> Settings > Location & Security > SELECT DEVICE ADMINISTRATORS

Add and Remove device Administrators > Open = no available device administrators

My question:  Is this locked down?  There seems to be no way to set it from this screen.

Anyone have details about this function?

Thank You :smileywink:

I believe that it has something to do with exchange/corporate email settings. It would set up by the company IT department to allow for remote wipe if the phone was lost/stolen or policy changes related to the email.

A little more general.    It's an application-specific thing, so for example, my device has Seek Droid with device administrator capabilities, as it requires "special" permissions to do its thing (erase data, reset password and force lock in this case).  If you have such an application, this menu will be enabled.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Thank You Ann154 for your correct response.  The Device Administration API provides device administration features at the system level. These APIs allow you to create security-aware applications that are useful in enterprise settings, in which IT professionals require rich control over employee devices. For example, the built-in Android Email application has leveraged the new APIs to improve Exchange support. Through the Email application, Exchange administrators can enforce password policies — including alphanumeric passwords or numeric PINs — across devices. Administrators can also remotely wipe (that is, restore factory defaults on) lost or stolen handsets. Exchange users can sync their email and calendar data.  You can find out more information by clicking on the following link:

Thank You
