Shipping Issues

I recently ordered a Droid X and was excited to find out it had shipped on Monday and I would be recieving it today, however due to certain procedures by Fed Ex and Verzion, I've become rather unhappy.
When I placed the order I had intended on having the shipping address to my play of employment. Though during the order process that thought had slipped my mind and it was meant to be shipped to my place of residence. However I had thought it wouldn't be a problem, I could simply call in VZW and have them change the shipping address before the item was shipped. When I called I found out I was unable to do so. I wasn't thrilled, but at the time I had thought that FedEx would take it to my apartment leasing office with no problems.
Today had finally arrived and like any other tech junkie who was excited to get a new product, I kept my eye on the Fed Ex tracking site knowing it was out on delievery. Come to find out that the delievery man did not drop it off at the leasing office, stated no one was at the residence. I quickly called Fed Ex and they told me that they could not leave it at the leasing office since it was a Verizon package and needed a note from me to authorize it. Normally when Fed Ex drops of a package and finds no one home they take it to the leasing office with no trouble, so I did not no such a policy was established. So I asked Fed Ex if they could change the shipping address, they could not. I had to get authorization from Verizon. An other answer I was not happy with but I did call Verizon to try and get this issue resolved. However I found that Verizon couldn't change the shipping address. That I had to sign the notice and give them permission to do get it to the leasing office. I find that very ridiculous.
I've dealt with many electronic companies (such as Best Buy) and if I needed an address to be changed, either them or UPS would do so with no problems. I was told by the Verizon rep that it was for fraud reasons they couldn't change anything. Most places ask me to verify pretty much everything, why can't Verizon use such a method? Thanks to this whole ordeal, I'm going to the FedEx site to pick up my phone so I won't have to deal with another day of possible incompetence.
I do take responsiblity for not putting in the correct shipping address at the beginning, but Verizon please find an easy way to help remedy such a mistake in the near future. I've never had any problems with this company, I have pretty much all my media run through Verizon (Fios TV and Internet) until today. Please do something to make sure that out experience with your online ordering is easier when attempting to fix an error.

Each shipper can dictate how their packages get shipped. As Verizon stated, take the shipping sticker and fill out the info on where to leave the package so it can be delivered there the Wednesday.
There is a horror story on another board where someone other than the owner of the phone signed for it and took it.
I understand your thought on Verizon just verifying certain info to authorize the switch. They choose not to do so.
When i was with Alltel, they only shipped to the address on account. There was not an option to ship elsewhere.

So, let me get this straight. You messed up, so it's VZW and Fed-Ex fault? Only in America........
On packages valued over $500 you MUST SIGN for their release, this is a Fed-Ex requirement, not a VZW or Motorola requirement. As for changing shipment while it's in transit... It's easier said than done. I've done plenty of shipping with Fed-Ex and UPS, the shipping location cannot be simply changed while it's in transit. On an over-night or two day delivery it is IMPOSSIBLE to change this simply due to the time it would take to process the information.
I've read plenty of bad-luck stories on these boards over the last few days. In your case, you messed up. All responsibility was on your shoulders, {please keep your posts courteous} accept the consequences of your mistake. I've made the same mistake myself a few times, but I don't try to pass it off as someone else's fault.
