I recently updated my Droid X. It seems like everytime I shut it down, it automatically comes back on a few minutes later. This only happened when I did the most recent upgrade. I will turn it off again, and it won't start back up until I turn it on again. Essentially, I have to shut it down twice to keep it totally off. Any solutions???

Hi xxstucknaboxx,
I understand your frustration in this matter, and would be delighted to assist you. Sometimes what you describe can be caused by a third party application. Please remove third party applications from the device and monitor the activity. You can do this by pressing Menu>Settings>Manage Applications. You would then choose the application and uninstall it. You will also go through a confirmation screen, where you will select "OK" to confirm the uninstallation.
I hope this information is helpful. Have a great day!

I noticed my phone do this before and after (once) the update, but don't think I had it happen after I did a factory reset shortly after my update. If I noticed correctly before, it seemed to only do this when the phone is plugged in. If I turned the phone off without it plugged in, then plugged it in after it was shut off it would stay off and charge it. Not sure if this helps any.

First off, what signifies a third party application? Are all applications NOT Verizon or Motorola "third party" applications. Second, how do I identify the one that is causing the problem since I never downloaded any new apps immediately prior to and after the Gingerbread download? What in the Gingerbread download would cause a app to behave this way?

Welcome to the hot tub.
You don't mention what problems specifically you're having. They certainly can come in all flavors with this latest update.
3rd party apps are considered those that do not come from the "base" version of the phone & software. This phone is a Computer - and software is what runs on it (I know, duh). Some of the 3rd party apps require updates for Gingerbread - and some have yet to be updated. So they CAN cause problems. Finding the 1 or several Apps that are causing problems can be a tedious process. The first step is to run in SAFE MODE - *IF THE PROBLEM IS REPRODUCEABLE*. Of course you don't want to RUN any 3rd party Apps when running in this mode - except for specific APPS you must use (e.g., Phone calls, email, etc.)
If the problem goes away in this mode of operation, you likely have a 3rd party app that is causing the issues - time to start Uninstalling them (one at a time) and Test until you isolate the culprit.
There are 'next step" options after that : CLEAR CACHE then FACTORY RESET. (you didn't mention whether you did either of these yet, but a FACTORY RESET really is the silver bullet and what Verizon will likely do if/when you get them involved.)
To get into SAFE MODE:
- Powerr Off
- Press & Hold the MENU button
- Press Power up - continue to hold down MENU
Phone will eventually come up saying SAFE MODE in lower left. TEST TEST TEST
Good luck.

I have had the same problem since this update I have also changed out the phone twice and have had fresh ones from Verizon and with nothing installed I can shut it down and anywhere from 30sec to 5 min it will power back on then you can shut it off again and it stays off. I have talked to at lease 5 techs and they stated they had no record of this problem.I have learned to live with it but it is annoying when you forget and you phone is half dead in the morning

Mine does it around two minutes after I shut it off EVERY night. Annoying, but not as bad as my other problem.

Thanks for posting winddancergw!
I know this can be very annoying, but I just want to assure you and the rest of the Community, this has been lifted up to our Product Support Team and they are working diligently on providing a fix to the power issue with the next software release. I don't have a specific date or time frame, however, we are working to provide the update as soon as possible.
Thanks again for your patience and for being a part of the Verizon Wireless family!

I look forward to a fix as I started having this same "powering on" issue since the last update. Please keep us informed here when an update is released.

I know it's not the "fix" we all want, but you can get around this annoyance by putting the phone into "SLEEP MODE".

I'm not sure why the post heading says this problem is solved, as there is no solution given. I have the same problem and it is persistent. Has Verizon or Motorola developed a solution?

I think the reality of this is that Motorloa and Verizon have moved on from the original Droid X and we won't be getting any support from them. Why would they want to spend time on what is now an out of date phone when they can just let us get frustrated enough so that we buy a new one at full price.

@Rick -- long thread at MOTO on this... Trust me, they are very well aware of this & the fact that GB introduced it.

I don't deny they are aware of it...I just think they will be focusing their energies on problems of the more recently released phones and not ones like the Droid X that has become a great -grandfather in the Droid family. It will be two year's released this August and most everyone who bought one at the start, like myself, will be eligible for upgrades in the spring. So by not fixing this problem they will be nudgeing us in the direction of a new Android. Or maybe it's time for an iPhone from another carrier. You never know.

Yea, I agree with what you're saying ... But if you read through that thread the MOTO rep. (Matt) clearly stated that they have "not abandoned the DX" and are actively "working on an update" to address this as well as other issues since GB ... But like you, I take that with a grain of salt -- hopeful, but doubtful. And honestly, I really am not having many issues with my DX - except for the auto-power-up annoyance. I really still do love this phone ...
take care

Yes, this is an annoying feature with the DroidX since the May update. That said, it's not as bad as a problem as the 4G phones seem to be having these days. They seem to having problems when it switches between 4G and 3G areas: dropping calls, caller can't here you, etc.) Sadly, that's another defect Verizon doesn't want to publicly acknowledge either especially since they are promoting 4G so much.
I'm afraid we DroidX users are probably out of luck getting a patch for this problem because it's getting to be an old model (i.e. less important to Verizon).

Despite what the "experts" at Verizon and Motorola say this problem is far from solved. I wiped my phone clean and reformatted my memory card and went back to all original factory settings. I have the most updated Verizon and Android systems running on the phone and with no, I repeat NO added applications, and I still suffer the same problem. Since I can't get rid of all the preinstalled apps without having someone Root my phone, something I have no way of knowing how to do, it is clear to me that the problem is with the updates Verizon and Android has sent.

That's happened to me as well. Shut it off and a couple of minutes later it comes back on. On the second :"Power off" it doesn/t't happen again. So far, it has only happened once.
