Sign-in error---is restoring the phone the only option

My phone is having a hard time accepting my password. I can access my account through m.gmail.com via my phone's browser and my computer. It keeps on saying sign-in error for my gmail address
I called phone support they could not help me

Is it possible that your phone is attempting to put in the password and at the same time you are inputting the password? This would, of course, make the password incorrect.

Yea, if you initially entered a wrong password, the cache holds on to that. You can have it "cleared" so you can then enter the correct one for it to 'save' by clearing the cache.. Go into SETTINGS / APPLICATIONS and scroll down to your email APP and select it. There is an option there to "Clear Data / Cache" .... click on that and go back into your email - you should get prompted for your login credentials again.
