Skype Mobile has always been a little flakey around the edges, but in general works as long as wifi is not enabled and 3G is strong. Since my Droid X upgraded to Android 2.3.3 five days ago I have noticed that Skype Mobile keeps signing out - basically going into the same state as when there is no signal. Even though the app shows on the notification bar, when I launch it, it goes through the auto log in sequence, connecting, etc. Other times I find it "reconnecting".
My wild guess was this is to do with Android 2.3.3 battery management where it "sleeps" the phone more than the previous version, but it is happening when the phone is on charge too.
I'd be way happier to use the Android Skype app, but it doesn’t support Bluetooth so is not practical when driving
Any suggestions?

how do you do skype with the camera on the back?
You can't video skype without a front facing camera, but you can make non-video calls. I use skype to talk to my son who is in afghanistan. Skype being an internet call is free, wheras cell phone calls with international roaming is out of out of sight, cost wise.

Skype Mobile doesn't do video chat, it's just voice, but this is about it disconnecting when not in use, basically not staying online

Ok this is what is happening...
You turn it on, and connect...
Someone calls you or you make a call...
It disconnects are there is no longer a DATA connection...
You have to open it up again and connect it.
Anything that causes the data connection to drop you will have to log into Skype mobile again.

Thanks, that's a fairly accurate description, and you don't need to have any real traffic on the phone to get the effect, it'll happen just sitting there with all the bars on 3G.. I should have been more clear, Skype Mobile worked fine (as long as I didn't start a wifi connection with weak 3G) on the Droid X for months. I've spent hours driving and chatting, but after the Android 2.3.3 upgrade about 2 weeks ago it is logging out, shows me offline, etc, pop the app and it logs in again.
One of the confusing things is that it does it on charge and if I set the battery to full power too..
So, I think there's an issue with the current version of Skype Mobile and Android 2.3.3, might be worth the VZW support people taking a look at it
btw for those who think skype is all video, not so, it works pretty well for international calls, and the cool thing about the mobile version is it will work through a bluetooth headset, very handy for driving

I realize how useful Skype can be on your smartphone, so I would like to help. I checked our resources and also online, and I am not showing this as a known issue with the software update. Do you get any error messages when Skype disconnects? Is the phone still showing 3G when this happens? Try clearing your cache from Skype. This will not delete any information. Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Skype>Clear data/cache. This will cause you to sign in again.
Let us know if this resolves your issue.

MarquiaF_VZW,
I am also having this same issue on my Droid 2. I have hour long calls with my team on Skype and I have yet to be able to complete the hour without at least two drops. Skype appears to reset taking about two minutes before I can dial back into the call. I am not receiving any phone calls causing these events. The drops happen randomly after about 20 mins into the call then continue about every ten minutes after that. I would appreciate if you could investigate this further please.
As a note, I was told by a local Verizon rep that Skype uses the cellular network on Verizon and not the data side. Yet the response on this thread that incoming calls break the data link indicate otherwise. Which is the truth please?
Thanks

I have a droid 3 with the same issue and have not found a solution, even the latest firmware update hasn't changed things. Can someone at Verizon please respond to this with some help or suggestions!
I use the chat function of skype a lot and it is a real problem having to constantly check to see if the app has signed out. I would use the official android Skype app except that is a real battery hog compared to Verizon's
