depends upon where you are....rural or in a metro? I live in a metro, a place where Verizon says there is SOLID 3G, yet my phone constantly goes to 1X, well within plain sight of 3 towers, yes THREE towers.
I'm tired of people saying its the tower upgrades related to 4G and to live with it - the problem is widespread enough and reported by users in various parts of the country....that CAN'T be a tower problem, unless ALL of their towers have problems. We don't pay for 3G to get crap 1X service. If Verizon says via the own service maps that there is 3G then THAT is what "I" expect to receive. Don't blame it on the tower if I'm out in plain sight (away from buildings) of 3 towers all I get is1X showing on my phone.
I even did a factory reset a week ago due to other issues and NOTHING got fixed.....it still gives me 1X, it still gives me problems with other things as well, and that was without any apps being installed yet.
VZW get your act together.....factory resets and battery pulls are NOT the answer

the fact that you can see 3 towers doesn't necessarily mean they're verizon towers & being very close to a tower isn't necessarily a good thing because you could be under the umbrella, where reception isn't very good.
just because they may not be Verizon towers doesn't mean anything at all.....carriers share towers all the time. AT&T phones will work off of Verizon towers, Verizon will work off of AT&T towers, etc. Their networks work off of different spectrums, but to say you can only get Verizon service from a Verizon tower would mean that service would be even worse. If I wanted this kind of answer, I'd have walked into a Verizon corporate store and gamble with what kind of excuse I would get
sorry but if you are in a 3G area, where the Verizon map says is SOLID 3G, then that's what I expect to get, regardless of who's towers are around me. Don't advertise the service, charge me for it, and then not produce. If I don't produce in my job, then my job is in jeopardy.

between the op, who doesn't even post a state & you, the great state of texas, where will verizon concentrate towers, near mineral wells, graham & breckenridge or dfw & the big cities & population centers are located?
personally i have no sympathy for folks who whine about poor service & include nothing about whether they live in a metro area or out in the middle of no-where in the op.

Good morning RGold60,
I think we all know the importance of having 3G service available when it's needed. With that being said, I am available to assist you with your 3G speeds. I have a few questions to ask you in order to get a better understanding of the 3G issue. If you would be so kind as to answer them then I can research this issue for you. I have them listed below for your convenience.
1. Are you using the Droid X, as your profile states?
2. What software version do you have on the phone?
3. What city & state are you in?
4. Are you using any type of 3rd party app or equipment as a signal booster?
5. Are you the only person/device having this issue?
As Ann154, stated in her post, there are several factors that can influence the upload and download speeds. If you like, you can post the answers on the forum or send me a private message so I can investigate. If you decide to send me a private message then please include your full name, your mobile number, and your answers to the questions above. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you...

Hi,
To answer ArnettH questions:
1. Yes, I 'm using DROID X
2. Software version: 4.5.602.MB810 Android version 2.3.3
3. I'm live in zip code 97006.
4. Nothing for signal booster.
5. I'll talk with other people to determine if it's only me having this issue.
Just for the record. There are very short times where the network speed is good.
Thank you for listening.

Here's a map of your Area just click on the Link: it shows you have all the services including 4G
To find coverage maps go Verizons Main paige Make sure you enter your Zip code an then down along the Left hand side Under Explore click on View Coverage Maps an a Map of you Area should appear it'll be Red in Color to See if you have 4G click were it Says 4G coverage an then refresh the Map. B33

I'm not alone:

Looks like Verizon are capping the 3G speed.

Well accouple things that could be..... an accouple things to Try:
1 Tower Work in the Area if the 4G is new to your area they may be working on the 3G as well because they have to change the ellements on the Tower as the Frequencies are different.
2.Try updating your PRL to see if your singnal has improved this needs to be done at least once a month an usually at the end of the Month an if you still see no difference in signal try a *228 Then 1 if your phone is non LTE.
3.Go to other towers in area an see how the signal is there an i forgot see what the signal is out side your home give that try.
And one other thing to remember there are Companies that Lease there Towers to verizon or Tower space that is were you'll see more than one set of Ellements up on the tower if things arn't payed or if that company decides it want's to lease to some one else say like another cell company or say your local Dot or maybee the local P.D. they might be as what we call up the creek with out the Paddles. an have to move to another Tower or another area. An that has happen in our City.

I appreciate your advise, B33, however a simple customer like me doesn't need to worry about taking any actions (like #228 onc a month) to maintain G3 network speed. I pay Verizon for G3 connectivity and they need to provide it with out me making experiments and evaluating which area has fastest G3 speeds...

Rgold60- people are trying to give you advice and trying to help you resolve your issues, yet it sounds like you are refusing to try the things they are suggesting. If that is the case, why are you on here? Are you just wanting to complain?
First you would be amazed at the issues dialing *228 will correct. It takes about 15 seconds, costs you nothing, and could save you some headaches, so why does it present such an issue for you?
Second, I was having some issues with my 3g randomly not connecting for long periods of time, I would have to turn my phone off and back on in order to get off 1x. It would also disappear in the middle of downloading something or opening a web page. How do you lose signal when you are sitting in the same place? This lasted for several months and then slowly improved on it's own. I learned later that 4G is now available in my area, I'm sure my issues had something to do with that.
If you are not willing to follow the advice you receive here and you are not willing to be patient, then pay your cancellation fee, and go somewhere else. I can almost guarantee your service will not change or improve with someone else.

I really appreciate people help. I know about *228 and dialed it many times, it made no difference. The root cause is Verizon network they have no interest to provide better speed.
