With the rumors of the HTC Incredible about to hit Verizon, I am now pondering the decision I will have to make soon...the Incredible or the Nexus One. I'm on the fence about it, as I'm sure others are. I'd like to get some feedback as to your ideas of the pros and cons to each.

I am in the same boat as you, and I guess for me it depends on what the actual confirmed specs of the Incredible turn out to be. If it is even, I am leaning towards the Incredible myself. I really want to see IF there is a difference in RAM between the two devices. I do like the Sense capabilities on the Incredible much better than the standard Google interface

I am still leaning tword the Nexus One. I am a little worried that Verizon might lock the phone down too much...

The difference in these phones will not be the RAM. Do you think HTC or Verizon will release a phone with all the enhanced specs, 1 gig processor, android 2.1, HD recording, and so on with less RAM than the Eris? That just doesn't sound right. My bet is that this phone will have the same amount of RAM as the Nexus 1. The difference is going to be in the service of the phone. Google is set to handle all Nexus One purchases and returns. Are you OK with that? If so the Nexus One is for you. Me I like to go into Verizon and check out the phone before I purchase it, and in the event I need service I will either get a replacement that day or a loaner. If I need a replacement with the N1 ...........wait they are mailing me a new one and holding a charge on m y account until they receive my phone. Don't like that idea too much. Also I am a big fan of HTC Sense UI, ( My wife has the Eris) and I don't want to root my phone to get it. I would say those are some of the differences.

I think of instead of asking what phone you should get, you should ask what interface you enjoy most. Yes, SENSE UI is a wonderful thing, but how long do updates take?
If you weren't aware, Google Experience phones (Nexus, G1, MyTouch) get updates much faster and proficiently. They don't have to deal with a third party software that can interfere with any updates whatsoever.
I've had every Android phone to date, I prefer the default UI over anything else. [edit]
Be Careful. While our members are generally helpful and eager to provide useful information, Wireless customers need to be cautious on what you decide to download as there is always potential risk that your device may be damaged or void your warranty.
Further, any posted content that states any benefits of why rooting or hacking should be done is also not allowed.
Thank you.

I second axel's question above...
And have a question in reference to "rooting." Is this somewhat similar to those of us that would update the OS on our BB Storm with unofficial releases? Or am I totally off-base?
Also, did I read somewhere that rooting the device would render the warranty void?

In terms of Hardware; I'd expect the two phones to be very similar -if not exact specs. The main determining factor is going to be preference of Interface. If you dig the Sense UI -get the Incredible. If you like the clean, crisp taste of Google Experience -get the N1

This is what's really confusing me. I don't know anything about this HTC Sense UI because I've never had an HTC phone, but many people seem to swear by it. Can someone please explain to me what's so great about it?
Oh, and another thing....will the multi-touch capabilities on the Incredible and the N1 be the same?

Sense UI is probably the biggest reason I chose the Eris over the Moto Droid. Have you ever used different Windows operating systems on your home PC? Like maybe you had Win 98, then XP, or maybe even Vista or Win7? It's all windows, and aside from some upgrades, it works basically the same, but they have a very different look and feel to them. The Moto and the Eris use different versions of Android (currently...until the long awaited upgrade comes along), but they're both still Android based. But sense gives the operating system a completely different look and feel. Probably the single biggest and most noticeable difference is that while the Moto gives you three home screens, sense gives you the ability to create 4 completely different sets of SEVEN screens each! Personally, I don't have a need for 4 different sets of homescreens, but you better believe I love having seven screens in the one I do use. And the way each page is displayed, or opens other functions is also completely different. Ditto for the virtual keyboard. The UI (generically called a shell) completely changes the look and feel of how you use the phone. I had a WinMo phone VERY briefly before buying my Eris. The standard UI was awful, but once I added SPB mobile shell to it, it was a much nicer phone to use. Not nice enough to be a keeper, but it was a pretty dramatic difference. That's the same way I feel about HTC Sense. Granted it's purely a matter of personal preference, but to me it makes it a much nicer phone to use. Most of the phone gadget websites seem to agree on this one, but it still is a personal preference thing. Go to the Verizon store and play with the Moto and the Eris and the difference will be immediately evident. Only you'll know which is better for you. As for Multi-touch, since the Eris already has it and HTC makes all of them, I'd be very surprised if they both didn't come with it.

I have another question. Does the HTC Sense UI use the same set of default apps as the N1? What I mean is, when you open the browser on a device with HTC Sense, is it calling the same browser that is used on the N1, or is this a home-brew HTC browser? Along that same line, when you use the Search function within HTC Sense UI, does it call upon the google universal search that the N1 uses, or does it use it's own custom (HTC) search?

Tough choice. Will have to see what Verizon does to the Incredible in regards to "verizon-izing" it. I believe the subsidizing of the cost will probably work out to be in the Incredible's favor, but we will have to wait to see for sure. If the Incredible's processor is down clocked from 1ghz to 768mhz as rumored, I will have to play with one in a Verizon store to see how that effects the performance of the phone. My friend has a Nexus One on T-Mobile & boy, that phone is FAST! No lag & flies from app to app!
The other thing that I am a little nervous about is the Nexus One is purchased from Google & then you deal with Google for customer service of the phone. Not sure if I am ready to give up the great Verizon service on the hardware.
I am up for my renewal tomorrow, so I am ready to pull the trigger on one of them! But I am going to make a good informed decision.

So heres a question for everyone;
If your within your 30 days to return your Droid, how would you exchange it for the Nexus One if its only sold through Google?
Is that possible at all? I think the nexus one will be out by the end of the week (Search nexus one on Verizonwireless.com it takes you straight to Google, so something is up)
The incredible wont be out until the end of April. How do I know this? Because Verizon ran a promotion for the Droid that Ends the 31st of March. They dont want everyone coming into exchange their Droids for the new HTC so they will let the 30 days expire.

Yeah, you would return your Droid and then go online to www.google.com/phone to see if you 'qualify' to get the subsidized pricing for the Nexus One. Otherwise you have to pay it full retail price.

As for the HTC Incredible, this website claims they will be having a private sit-down with HTC at 2:30pm PST and believe that more information about the Incredible will be released then.
I'll be following the page to see what comes of it, but overall if the info thats been leaked so far is true, I'll be choosing the Incredible over the Nexus. Other sources have been pointing out that the Nexus will only be made available online, whereas the Incredible will be available in store.
