Software Update Locked Phone

My phone started doing an update yesterday. It gave one error after another about Android (??? I don't recall what) has stopped working. My only option was "OK". I kept saying "OK" and the errors just kept coming. After about 20 error messages I decided to power down my phone (Droid Mini). It powered down no problem.
Now it will not complete the process of powering back up AND I can no longer power it down. It said Droid, gave the red bursts, and now has a red circle thing on it like it’s trying to finish powering up.
Verizon & Motorola have offered me no help other than to say I need to buy a new phone. I don't think a phone less than 2 years old, in mint condition, that was working perfectly fine until an automatic update, should be considered broken at my expense to replace. I don't believe the phone is broke, but rather it is locked in a software update or has a virus.
Any thoughts???

We want you to have a working phone, itsmenow. Typically, what you describe is a software error on the phone. It could have been caused by the update not processing correctly for you. Since this issue started have you tried restarting the phone in Safe Mode? http://vz.to/24WNpyV
