Solution to overly sensitive contact scroll

I recently purchased a Droid Incredible. My first smart phone. My #1 requirement is simple, error-free calling, and easy, error-free contact selection. In scrolling through the contacts list, I find I continually, unintentionally initiating calls as I am scrolling through the list. While practice with the touch screen may reduce the frequency of these accidental calls, it is still a problem, and I would call it a definite drawback of this phone. Note: I don't consider myself to be heavy-on-the-touch. It is simply demands to much of the user to use this otherwise fine contacts interface. (There seems to be no sensitivity setting that alleviates this).

Why not program the interface so that there is a separation of scrolling and contact actions? For example, make the left hand face column exclusively for scrolling. Then I can scroll without fear of accidentally initiating a call. The remainder of the screen (each row) can be either for call initiation only or for scrolling and call initiation, as it is now.

(Note: amusing that the spell checker did not recognize Droid. It suggested Druid. )

.. I would think that this would be trivial to implement. if you wanted to keep the default interface as it is, you could make this alternate contacts mode a setting.
