Some app issues

I have a problem with maps and an app.

Maps seems to have the compass backwards.  It shows me facing east when I'm pointing west on the maps screen.  I did the compass calibration and it still shows the opposite direction.

Also I did reset my phone back to factory default before the update landed.  I loaded a new weather app and it keeps crashing when trying to start.

In cases like these it's best to email the app developers.  It's pretty common that they don't have apps fine tuned for updates before they are released and it takes people notifiying them before they fix it.

I get that on the weatherbug app but I need to tell Google that their OS isn't working well with their app?  This sounds more like a problem Motorola needs to look at and I need to say I'm more than alittle disappointed that this wasn't caught in testing.  Maps is a base feature on the phone so it should have been checked.

Have you gone into settings/applications/ and reset the data for the app?

I just went in and checked my compass and it's showing correctly.

There are a couple of apps that will test your compass sensor to make sure it's not messing up one of them is Z-Device Check available free on the market.  You can test all your phone sensors with it.

@Bneely1  - you are correct. This "bug" was discovered also by the test group.  The issue, as I believe you are seeing it, is that the North / South view is upside down. e.g., When you are in a car and using the "follow me" blue arrow, if you're travelling say North, the map appears upside down where by the  blue arrow is not going FORWARD. Is that what you mean?  But East / West appears correct?  Google NAVIGATION doesn't do this - you have the option to switch up and down directions still.

This has been reported to Google - and you can also report it online to them. (the more of us that report it might get a faster fix.)

Ok I was wondering how I missed this bug but I see how now, I only use the navigation software and I never even opened the map app.  I never got the use for both.

Thanks Cody for clearing this up for me... :smileywink:

There are 2 issues happening that were revealed during the testing:

#1 -- Google Maps :  orientation is off, period.  North / South are upside down.  This has been reported to   Google Maps App

#2 - Compass :  Some people had various app issues where the compass settings were all screwed up. e.g., Constellation, Nav, etc.  ...   Recalibrating the Compass appears to have fixed those issues. Also, it is widely reported that the Recalibration exercise is much faster now.  I haven't tried it personally as I haven't experieinced the second issue.

to recalibrate:   Settings / Location & Security settings / Calibrate Compass    (helps if you're outdoors & unobstructed).

I uninstalled the maps updates and deleted the data.  It still points the wrong direction on the map.  The orientation gets thrown off depending on whether you are using it in portrait mode or landscape.  Portrait the east-west is off in landscape the north-south is off.

I've recalibrated the compass twice now and using a known good compass I can see that it is reasonably correct.  This really lies with the maps application as I did see that the navigation app is correct.  I use maps pretty regular to just get an overhead view to orient myself but I'm glad to see navigation isn't having that problem and causing people to turn left instead of right.

Again, it is a known APP bug with Google Maps ..   it has been brought to their attention. For now, just rsalize things are upside down as far as the map's perspective.  Hopefully we;ll see a fix soon.
