Speed Test Results not accurate?

Okay so I have learned that without WiFi a person surfs the internet on their HTC Incredible via the 3G Network; depending on Cell Tower Coverage.

With Wifi, you get faster connections, and apparenlty the settings for my Wifi says 54mbs or something.

Anyways I downloaded via the Android Market some "speed test" apps.

Xtreme Labs Speedtest says Download: 1022.9 Kbit/sec (max is 1048.3Kbit/sec

SpeedTest.Net says Download: 657kbps or .64Mbps or 82.2kB/sec

SpeedTest by MordaX says Download: 311.96Kbps

What was even more weird was that the Speedtest.net said my upload was faster than download; HA yeah right.

So whats going on here? Is there a way to disable the 3G network and rely on Wifi to separate the two; is it possible I'm getting two diff kinds of test; one from 3G other from Wifi?

Thanks

I find these tests to be mostly "off" for actual data. They make a good approx speed. Problem is you can get crazy results depending on reception from a tower, or wifi router.

mine were fairly accurate. i realized that at my office the 3g was actually faster than wifi. i couldn't believe it so i tested my pc and sure enough my dsl was STRUGGLING!!! called qwest and had a few things straightened out (primarily....took the filter off at the jack). tried again and my dsl was twice as fast as before which also led to my wifi on the incredible significantly improving. your wifi speed on your device will only be as fast as the the network it is connected and mine was SLOW! all of this being said, 3g on my device is blazing fast! don't recall the numbers but i know when i hit a link it pops up immediately, and i have yet to download anything that has took more than a matter of seconds.
