Stock Calendar app always shows the date as 31??

New to the phone and I was just courious why the calendar app didnt change when the date changes I know you can press on the bar up top and get the date but it just seems strange the date app doesn't.

I believe you're talking about the calendar ICON not the APP. Icons will not change. A widget will.  Long press on an open space in your home screen and select widgets.  Then select calendar or the calendar app/widget you want to use and you should get up to date (no pun intended) information with the current date.
