I have problems with my signal going in and out , I called and get the ball rolling with support.
I stop into the store because now I notice my WiFi also is see/sawing off and on .
Here is what I was told at my local store:
First of all after 11 years I am now told where I live is not a good area for tower signals and it will never be good ( yet they want to show me a 4G Thunderbolt ) keep in my I have ONE BAR with my 3G and half the time ZERO bars.
At home I use WiFi , I was asked WHY would you use WIFI when you have the power of 3G ( remember ONE BAR )
but my question is about wifi and why it see/saws , having checked my network at home and it is steady so I believe my problem is a hardware problem but at the store I am told the WiFi technology is still new to Verizon and I should contact Motorola
I am fit to be tied with this. The store also informs me I can get an upgrade and try to sell me the Thunderbolt
But I paid for insurance on a phone and I want that phone to work before buying another one.
I am clueless and celless in ohio LOL
Here are some speed test I did today after the sales rep told me 3G would be fast than my WiFi
I am not real smart with some of this stuff but I ran some speed test and here is my results:
3G 80kbps down 107kbps up
3G 39kbps down 401kbps up
ran back to back
then the WiFi
5714 down 695 up
5037 down 706 up
so am I wrong that the better speed is my WiFi connection when its not going up and down ?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

It may not be the phone, it may be the routers. Because routers are constantly sending and receiving electronic signals, they do wear out in time. If your router is more than five years old, you may need a new one. If you have a coffee shop or other place that offers free wifi, pay it a visit and see how your phone does there. If it stays steady, or steadier than usual, you will know it's the router. By the way, wifi does vacillate a little.

There is no way it is the router, the wifi signal is steady and strong on other phones and laptops
when I have a couple freinds over one had a BB Bold and the other had a Storm 2 and my Droid was the only one that showed any change in wifi signal.

Do all Verizon stores use the same guidelines ?
I have used the company store forever but all the reps I knew are no longer there and the new staff seems clueless of my needs.
We have 3 Verizon stores in a one mile radius on the same street.

My personal experience is that, it is more of the REP than of the store.
Some will stick steadfast to the guidelines while others will go out of their way, and of course the few who won't do anything for you unless there is some score points involved.
Think about it, would one want to spend time with you if there was no sale involved?
That Free-WiFi suggestions is the best. I too suffer that problem. And is still working on it. The WiFi works at all the free places, and at the VZ store, Just not at home. Even a new router, and a diffrent brand didn't solve my problem.
It was suggested that it may be interferience from my other wireless devices (Cordless phone, Wireless headset, Remote switches, other routers in the area, etc)
I have yet to try to stand right next to my router and to try getting a signal.

LOL I hear you brother , I am less than 15 feet from my router.
I went to another VZW store today and they spent 20 minutes on my phone problem they too seen it jump from 3 to 2 waves ( bars ) and they thought that was normal.

It is sure not the case in Massillon, Ohio just six miles east in Canton , Ohio they run their store completely different.
Both are company stores one is more interested in selling you a new phone and that is it. Plus to tell me that we will never have good service can't be something Verizon would want their reps telling customers.

If you have a half-way decent home internet speed then, when the WIFI is working, I would expect WiFi to be quite a bit faster than 3G. Speed degrades as you move away from the router, and depending on the house construction etc, it can degrade 50-70%, but that will often still be faster. On Wifi (near the router) I am getting 17952 down, 7902 up (I have a 30Mbps FiOS connection), 3G: 1243 up, 475 down. Not even close!
