Supply Problems for All Smartphones including DroidX I'm Sure

I saw a report on one of the news programs earlier this week that suppliers and manufacturers can't keep up with the demand for smartphones.  Right now there is a shortage of processor and touch screen chips that is causing big sales problems.

This is indeed the case for some of the HTC phones.  HTC purchase some of their components from Samsung.  HTC underestimated the demand and Samsung will not increase sales to them because Samsung requires the parts for their own competitive phones.

The problem with Motorola was HUGELY underestimating the demand for the Droid X.  If you'll notice I've heard of no shortage with the Droid 2 which launched this past week.

The positive side is Motorola doesn't purchase phone parts from their direct competitors such as HTC does.  So they are actually able to increase production without being strong-armed by their own competitors for parts.
