Switching from MOTO Droid to Droid X

I have a motorola droid and recently purchased a Droid X via online using my sisters upgrade because my upgrade wouldn't be until late 2011. No i did not still her upgrade, she wanted the moto droid because she has nails and and cannot use the touchscreen on the X. we made a deal where i gave her my droid in exchange for her upgrade. My question is when my X comes (will ship by 9/9) how do i switch my number to the X and my sisters number to the moto droid. I don't want to take this problem to the verizon store, I want to fix it on my own.

You have Verizon do it. :smileyindifferent:

No offense or trying to upset you, but isn't she aware that Droid 2 already launched? I mean, it's so much more improved and nicer than the Droid 1 and also has an improved qwerty keyboard just like the Droid 1 did, except without the navigation pad it used to carry. I'm sure that if you've kept it pretty much in mint condition and once it gets Froyo 2.2 it may run just as nice as the Droid 1 but I really hope she doesn't mind not having used her upgrade to get you a Droid X instead of getting herself the new Droid 1. Just a thought, I'm sure your Sister is awesome and doesn't mind doing this for you but I just think she might not have been aware that there was a newer option she could have chosen since she's extending her contract by getting a phone (Droid X) which she doesn't find suitable. Anyhow, hope you enjoy it. All you have to do is register your new handset online and it'll ask you for a S/N then make sure you've run your Backup Assistant so you don't loose all your contacts. Do the same for her with your Droid 1 but I am letting you know that she will be asked (electronically) over the phone if she agrees to a contract extension of 2 years (1 year if she chose that option). Then after that I'm sure you shouldn't run into any problems once she chooses the data package of $29.99 or higher required for all smartphones since she will obviously still need it for the Droid 1. I apologize for the long response, but hope this helps you. The wait will seem like forever but once you get your Droid X you'll completely forget about the wait and have an awesome time looking through all the functions the X provides. I'm loving my phone especially since I come from a 'dumbphone' which was the LG enV Touch that I HATED and thought a $9.99 or higher data plan was a waste of money for such a phone that gave me more problems than I had with my old school Samsung Alias which I went back to after using the LG enV Touch for less than a year and putting it back in it's box in almost mint condition. With the X I don't mind paying the $29.99 data plan because it truly does so much more than all those Blackberry phones I tested out at the Verizon stores. So glad I went with the Droid X! :robothappy:

No I appreciate your response. Yes she is aware of the Droid2 and she understands that there will be a 2 year contract. we are on a family plan and all of use have the unlimited data plans so she wouldn't need to get another 1. This is actually a deal for her because she has no money to buy herself a droid2, she has always wanted a droid and she see's no huge difference between the droid1 and droid2, so the opportunity to get a droid1 for free is a great deal 4 her. my droid1 is in mint condition and im giving her like 5 cases.

Awesome then, glad she's aware of the Droid 2 because otherwise you might have gotten a few unpleasant words from her if she hadn't been aware of the newer version and she might have opted to get the Droid 2 if she had been aware. Froyo 2.2 will definitely boost up the Droid 1, so pretty much the only difference will be the specs and the qwerty keyboard. You'll love the X, just hang in there because the wait will be a bit, mine took almost 3 weeks but now that I have it I would gladly go through the same waiting period for any other phone as awesome and smart as the Droid X is. I got my Droid X fix by reading about it here, android forums, and YouTube. That's the only way I kept myself from going insane while I waited for it. Enjoy! Have a good week! :smileyvery-happy:

You can change phones with my Verizon website.... It will be under the activate phone section. Just make sure that you have the correct phone number showing when you go into the section.

Two things

1 - If you use backup assistant, you need to uninstall/disassociate it from your account (on the phone).

2 - When you get ready to activate the new phone, make sure that the old phone is turned OFF. Failure to do this will result on a failure to activate, and you will need to call Verizon to get it working. (which is not a big problem)

I have done most of my phones this way. It is pretty painless. I did forget to turn off my env touch when I got the X and had to call to get it activated which took less than 5 minutes on the phone.

Ugh I also had the LG enV Touch and after less than a year with it and HATING IT, I decided to see if I could cancel the data plan on it altogether. Turns out that I had to have at least a $9.99 or higher data plan for it, which I downgraded to the lowest cost plan and after realizing that having a data plan on such a dreadful phone, undusted my old Samsung Alias and re-activated it to be able to get rid of that data plan which was frankly a waste on the enV Touch in my opinion. I still have the enV Touch pretty much in mint condition sitting pretty in it's box. I know some people who raved about it but after using a Windows Mobile PDA and Palm Digital devices, to me they were much worth a data plan than a multimedia phone like the enV. Sorry, I know this isn't about the enV Touch but I just had to rant about it because I can't stand the fact that I chose such a 'boring' phone. However, with the X, a data plan of $29.99 is DEFINITELY WORTH every cent.
