To sync with your personal stand alone Outlook, you need a 3rd party software solution.

I personally use Google Outlook Calendar Sync http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=98563 It sync your stand alone Outlook calendar to your Google Calendar, and your phone syncs with your Google calendar automatically. It is a simeple solution that works well.
If you are looking for Exchange sync at your work, check with your work to see if they already have identified a solution that they want you to use.
