So I woke up this morning and realized I had a popup that notified me of the update. I clicked install now and i was taken to a downloading type screen. I walked away for literally one minute and came back and my phone had already rebooted. I thought it had just downloaded quickly or something, but i went to About Phone and realized it hadn't updated at all. Now, when I go check for the update in System Updates it says it is currently up to date.
Could anyone help me figure out as to why it did not download and if I could somehow get the update pushed to me a second time or something?? I've been reading up on manually updating to gingerbread but I'm really skeptical. 😕

AshleyBabby,
From what I've done (exactly what you are hoping to do) I wouldn't get your hopes up. I have been unsuccessful. Verizon is supposed to conference call me this afternoon with Samsung to see if they can push something out other wise the service support lady sounded as though they may have to exchange phones.

@jj515789 - I've seen a few posts from others having the same issue we are having. It would not surprise me that they come up with a fix.
@JerryF - I tried downloading it on two different occassions. Each file has the same exact file hashes so I'm fairly certain they are correct. Not one single person has looked at their file hash information (CRC32, MD5, or SHA-1) to confirm ours is correct. But honestly I downloaded it from the links you provided and I'm a competent computer user for the last 20+ years so I'm fairly certain it is something real with our phones and not our technique.

Reefboy and Ashley too,
This is probably over kill but...
If you want to I will send you the same update.zip file that I used and it worked.
It's 14.9 MB after dfragging it to the phone and 117,613 KB in my Win XP computer so if you want to try this, just for fun, send me a private message with your Google Email because Google allows larger files to be emailed.
I agree, you do have a good file and it's something in the phone.
Personally, I really hate Factory Resets or phone replacements where you get someone else's returned "broken" phone which may be in pretty bad shape itself...YUK.

Jerry: Yes, I did happen to buy my phone from eBay, a few months ago. But I looked in the About Phone section and my info matched yours exactly. Could there be something on my phone from the original user of my phone that is causing my update not to go through? And I haven't tried to mannually update my phone yet, should I try that way before doing anything else?
Also someone said something about a newer version of this update because others are having the issues we have been having, should I wait for that or is that just a rumor?
Reefboy: Yeah, I did a factory reset for nothing because it didn't work. And it sucks because I just recently did a reset because my 3G wasn't working, ugh i'm getting so tired of resetting my phone and putting stuff back the way I like it. I just want this update to be done and over with.
Ps: Yes this is still AshleyBabby, for some reason this site made me make a new account just to reply to you guys. -.-

Ashley,
WOW...you did a factory reset or two. Good for you. From what you said, I do not think that there is anything on your phone that is holding up the update. Re the rumor on a different update, I personally do not believe it because over the last 2-3 months I have heard so much bad and downright incorrect info from VZ personnel that I don't trust 'em until I see it.
Yes, especially because your did a factory reset, I think you should do a manual update to GB 2.3.6.
Re-read the enclosed instructions again
Best regards and best of luck,
JerryF

This is for the Samsung Charge phone from Verizon. My battery was charged to 98%. I did NOT have the phone plugged into the charger. To do this your Samsung Charge phone you MUST be running STOCK on Froyo 2.2.1 EE4. This update does NOT root your phone.
I went to the URL shown below and downloaded the Gingerbread update file named update_EE4B_to_EP4D.zip to my PC. The file size was 117,613 KB in my PC but after it was copied into the root folder of my Samsung Charge phone the file size was 114.9 MB.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364298
After you go to this URL you want to choose the FIRST URL that ends in HAG3RFTBY6 and download that file to your PC. It is named "update_EE4B_to_EP4D.zip"
Next, while it was still in your PC, change the name of the file to: update.zip
Then using the USB cable copy the file update.zip from your PC to your Charge phone's SD Card root file. Do not copy it into a another folder. That's where all my Music, Photos, Videos and so forth are stored. After you copy it there you should go to the APP My Files to confirm that update.zip is there in the root folder on your SD card and that it does NOT say update.zip.zip (only one .zip required). The file size is now 114.9 MB.
Next I pressed three buttons at the same time (this was tricky and a bit difficult). I probably tried 8-10 times before it worked. What it was doing is turning off the phone but I kept trying. The three buttons are: Volume Up Button, Home Button, and the Power Button.
One user gave me the suggestion to Hold Volume Up + Hold Home + Hold Power until you see the Samsung logo, then release the Power button. Finally release the other two buttons (Volume Up + Home) several seconds later.
In my case the screen that came up was a RECOVERY screen. It said recovery at the top. You will see a choice of about five things you can do. On that list of choices I carefully touched UPDATE.ZIP and then I pressed the HOME Button at the bottom of the phone. The update started and the screen that came up had an picture of an open box with an arrow coming out going down toward a Droid. Now we know there really is a little Droid doing the update work! Also there also was a BAR showing the progress which was slow at times.
It took all of 15+ minutes and then the phone rebooted itself and finally just turned off. The little Droid was probably exhausted by then! I waited a couple more minutes after the screen went blank (black) and then pressed the power button. The phone started and it's working very well on Gingerbread 2.3.6. Later you might do one more reboot on your own but first use the phone for awhile.

I was the one who said about the new update. I went to my verizon store and told them about the problem with my phone. The guy didnt even look at my phone and was just like oh yea I just got an email this morning, dont worry about that update there will be a new one next week. I was like uhhhh okkkk???? and I am completely skeptical because as you say it pretty much took forever just to get gingerbread release, the issue is probably with my phone not the update, I think I am going to the store again tomorrow and gona try to talk to a different person, or see if they can provide more info on this.

JerryF - I PM'd you with my email address. I will try anything at this point.
Another thought - I have a smaller 2gb SD card that I could try. It's a long shot but I wonder if it could be a bad SD card although I have not really had any glaring issues that would lead me to believe that the SD card is bad other than the failed upgrade. Am I just wasting time?

Jerry: Yes, and it's so annoying going through all that. But anyways, I tried doing the manual update and did everything like you said and it started downloaded and not even halfway through it got a triangle with an exclamation point in the middle and the little droid guy, sooo I don't think this is going to work either. I'm soo tired of nothing working, I really don't know what else to do and why it's not working. I will probably try to go to Verizon and ask them about it but knowing them they won't help.
I'm so sad about this, last week I was all excited and of course I'm one of the ones that don't get the update.

@ashley
If you go to the verizon store, post on here asap as to if they tell you the same thing about another update or how it went for you, because that is what they told me. If the rumor is false I will be making another visit to my store also.

I called Verizon again and am to talk with Samsung tomorrow or that is what I've been told. I'll keep everyone posted. I hope they can drill down and find out the issue.
I too was so looking forward to updating and having a snappier phone, ability to not have 4g or wifi cut out, use Juice defender, etc. Now I have to start from scratch getting the phone setup again to the way I like it since I reset it and had it wiped. No point in getting it too my liking until I get it updated. I do admit it is faster and better battery life w/o my additions. May cause me to rethink what I do install when it is time.
