So I woke up this morning and realized I had a popup that notified me of the update. I clicked install now and i was taken to a downloading type screen. I walked away for literally one minute and came back and my phone had already rebooted. I thought it had just downloaded quickly or something, but i went to About Phone and realized it hadn't updated at all. Now, when I go check for the update in System Updates it says it is currently up to date.
Could anyone help me figure out as to why it did not download and if I could somehow get the update pushed to me a second time or something?? I've been reading up on manually updating to gingerbread but I'm really skeptical. 😕
Try this...Remove battery, remove SIM card, and remove SD card.
Wait 2-3 minutes, all the time hugging your phone, and then re-install the SD card, the SIM card, and then the battery.
Not sure but hope this helps. It cannot hurt.
So I did what you said, I took everything out, waited, then put it back in. It came on and i checked for system updates and the update was there. It downloaded all the way and took about 10mins or so. It then prompted to me to Restart and Install. I clicked that, and it rebooted. When it came back on I went to About Phone and saw my Firmware Version is still 2.2.1. Ughh, I thought it was finally going to work. Idk what more to do or if something went wrong. ://
I am having similar issues. Called tech support. They had me remove sim card, battery, etc for a few minutes. Put them back in and can initiate the download agagin. About 3 minutes in it has a real quick triangle and reboots back to 2.2.1... I bought my phone in July. I wonder if we have a newer hardware version that is causing issues? My next plan is to do a factory reset and then try again. I was excited to see the system update notification this morning but so far after 4 attempts I am still at 2.2.1
I've also slowly tried removing apps that I don't use often hoping to free up more memory or address the cause for the error but still nothing.
I am at a loss as to what is happening. All I can say is try a manual update. If that does not work you probably will have to do a Factory Reset and then a manual update. As HoustonHeart said, back up your contacts BEFORE the factory reset. Go thru this thread and use my instructions.
I first did the manual update and reported the same issue. I was hoping that the OTA would complete the Gingerbread upgrade but apparently not. For whatever reason I'm hesitant to factory reset the phone but hopefully it does the trick. Otherwise I'm not sure what I'll do then.
I just tried the reset from within the Privacy section. Started the update and once again no luck! I may be fighting a losing battle.?
Should I take more drastic measures by going into the recovery mode Vol. Up / Home / Power? Can i reformat the SD card, Wipe Cache, etc? Is there any options that I should absolutely not do?
