THIS IS A NIGHTMARE!

Ok....besides the issue of my vision problem and the update removing the black background with white text, I now am experiencing other problems.

1. My phone freezes constantly and I have to turn the power off and then power back up.
2. The buttons (?) On the bottom, menu, home, back, etc., do not light up and I constantly have to hold my phone under a light to get it to work. I cannot believe someone at Motorola didn't think "gee....maybe we should light those up whenever the screen is lit!"

3. I can no longer update my towers.

4. As long as I'm bi***ing.....I don't appreciate them adding more Apps that I don't want and cannot remove.

I have come to the conclusion that in order for anyone to work for Motorola you must NOT possess any common sense.

I have learned my lesson and will never, ever, ever allow a download again until it has been used by others for at least 6 months.

Thanks for allowing me to vent. Its Labor Day, I worked 12 hours, I'm frustrated, and now I'm going to bed and pray that the phone fairy comes and takes my phone and smashes it against the wall.

Goodnight.

I really do understand where you are coming from but a number of your issues ciuld be software related, have you by chance tried a hard reset?

Yea, I have to agree with Wildman.  If you REALLY are having a rash of issues after getting GB, it would be worth your while to just bite the bullet and run teh Factory Reset procedure -  do NOT automatically reinstall your APPS after the FR though. Start slow. Make sure the phone functions properly immediately after the FR. Then and only then reinstall your 3rd party apps - a few at a time and only the "must haves" for the time being.  If you take this to the Verizon store or call tech Support, they will likely do this anyway in an attempt to address your issues.

PS - if you decide to do this, I would strongly suggest that you make a list of all your apps you installed - or use a "back up" manager APP.  Make sure you read up on the proper way to do the FR and the impact on what happens with your phone..  I guess what I'm saying is don't just click on Factory Reset and hope for the best.

.. and good luck ... oh, and Welcome to the forum ..  :smileywink:

Thank you for the replies. I guess I lose everything, right? If it resets, will it reset to GB or the version before the update? As you can tell I am not real savvy about all this. Thank you for telling me about writing down all the Apps, with hundred of thousands out there it would have been a nightmare to try and find the ones I use now. I think I will call CS and have them walk through the process with me so I don't screw it up.

Thank you everyone who monitor these forums and help those of us who aren't as tech savvy as you. Your time is appreciated!

Yes, a FR will wipe your phone - if you tell it to Format/Wipe your SD Card during the process ... which I would suggest you do. If you have pics or other things on there, you should copy them off first before doing the Reset procedure.

PS - you *COULD* try doing the more benign CLEAR SYSTEM CACHE procedure first - just to see if it makes any difference to your problems. This procedure does not wipe out the apps or the data on your phone. But if this doesn't fix your issues, then FR is the final step.

Wiping cache partition-  cures many ills and is better to start with this than a (gulp) full Factory Reset.

  • Power off
  • Power On Holding Home Key
  • When Andy with Exlamation Point Shows up Press BOTH Volume keys
  • Use Volume Keys to navigate to "wipe cache partition" and tap power button to select
  • Wait for it to finish and select reboot system

You may want to try Codys suggestion before a reset and see if it helps because under some situations clearing cache works well..

No - you won't have to repurchase. Android MARKET knows which ones you paid for... just re-download them.

The Droid X and the Droid 2 are like twins. Anything you can do with the Droid X you can do with the Droid 2. As far as the market goes, it's the same market for all the Droids, be it a Droid X or a Thunderbolt. Now, if you had an IPhone, they have a different market set-up.

Not exactly... the button combination for the factory reset is different (D2 has no hardware buttons).

The market is the same... you are correct with that.

Very true. Except for the buttons, and the size, They are twins. Not identical twins, but more like fraternal twins.

Yea, that was my point about " not sure about the D2" ..  It seems that the various "menu choices" to get into the various system functions like Safe Mode & Factory Reset are different between the phones.

I'm not doing anything ... I really love my DX ... my next phone will be 4G capabale, dual core, large screen like the DX, much better camera. But I won't make the jump until late 2012 after the dust settles and a good set of reviews (and forum updates) are available.

MyBackup Pro can make backup and restore apps after reset painless...https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro&feature=search_result

Do not restore personal info from backup but MMS and SMS, all other personal settings can cause issues sometimes...  But restoring all apps works well because you wont have to remember all apps installed...

Also remember that the apps bought will cshow in Market / Menu / Myapps.

FR is not always the answer though - I did an FR a week ago and it didn't do anything but create a few new problems. The problems are not always with apps so an FR shouldn't be given as the answer to fixing things, as I have found while it might fix one problem it does create others....it actually made my radio problem worse to the point of completely dropping 3G whereas before the FR it was only going down to 1X......just wish people would see that the problems most users are having are not a result of an app, but rather the OS is still hosed to the point of continuously causing problems both new and old

FR fixes about 9 out of every 10 problems with android. it could be apps or software being corrupt. Also a lot of times people over look the sd card which can house corrupt data as well
