Whenever you call customer service or go to a local Verizon store to check on the 2.2 update, they tell you it's being released now. WHEN IS "NOW" for the Droid X ???
Anyone else getting tired of the inconsistent information?!

I share your frustration. However, I really want the release to improve as many problems as possible (and itself to be as bug free as possible). Perhaps there are some business decisions involved in the release date that have nothing to do with promoting high quality control. Nonethless, I think, or would like to think, that the delays in the release date are due to improvements they are making to the Motorola UI that will fix many bugs and/or improve other aspects of phone functions. Yes, dates have come and gone. But the final product may be well worth the delays.

Eloquently put...however, being that Verizon is a leader in the industry, you would think they would have better communication with their employees, news releases, etc...
I was one of the "lucky" 170 that got the phone early....and to be honest, I'm somewhat disappointed with the phone and hope that when the release does finally happen, it will change those feelings.
We shall see...

Not to shoot you down. But, when those on the "big" droid web sites who have connections and staff to search these things out, can't get a set date on Froyo for the X, what makes you think that the guy behind the counter is going to tell you? Should they be saying now? No. Unless thay are talking Froyo in general being released (those phones that have already recieved it). I do agree it is frustrating and it would be great to have a date. But, I have to agree with dsxdroider and say that I would rather have it fully working later than full of bugs now.
It will come.

Many reports have pointed to a contract issue on Adobe's end concerning Flash 10.2 that have been holding up the release of 2.2 for the Droid X.
With that said, there have been many more reports that quote a VZW and Moto source as stating Early September in the last 2 weeks. So have patience, and remember google is your friend.

The Droid X devphone has had 2.2 since April. I think the only reason we don't have it is so they can market the crappy Droid 2.

I would not be surprised if companies timed releases in order to market/promote products in certain ways that their analysts tell them will maximize sales/profit.

However, I have it on good authority that Motorola is actually still hard at work on preparing 2.2 for the Droid X - lots of bugs to fix, lots of things to adjust for the Motorola UI, etc. So, as I suggested in my post above, I think feelings of frustration are quite understandable, even if it is overall better to wait extra longer amounts of time for Motorola carefully to prepare a higher quality release for us.

Sure, but anything they release is going to have bugs in it.

That's all well and good. Verizon should communicate the status. Release SOMETHING! It will put some minds at ease, like mine. There is not much that irritates me more than to be standing in a sandy desert of information. In the information age no less. Verizon, you can surely tell us something eh? I'll say the magic word.... please?

I am now appeased. Verizon, y'all should be sending this out to all your stores so that people can be told the truth.

Verizon and Motorola DID say when 2.2 is coming out for the Droid X. The release is sometime in early September. The only 2.2 update coming out right now, is for the original Droid phone, and the Droid 2....because the software architecture of both phones are pretty much the same....only the Droid 2 has a slide-out keyboard now.
Just because all of the Droid phones have the "Droid" operating system, it does not mean that the Droid X is the same. The software architecture for the Droid X is a bit different from the Droid 1 and 2. Motorola is having to redesign the software a little to function efficiently on the Droid X. This is why they are currently working out bugs and trying to streamline the update before release. Hence, the September release forecast. It makes sense that they wanted to be able to finish 2.2 for the original Droid and Droid 2....because with the new release of the Droid 2, both companies know that consumers will be running out to get it, just like the Incredible and the X. That means more sales for Verizon....and also for Motorola. They didn't focus on 2.2 for the Droid X immediately, because it was easier to push it out for the Droids 1 and 2 first. Now that 2.2 is out for those phones, they are concentrating on completing the 2.2 redesign, and update for the Droid X. It'll be here soon enough. I've been able to see 2.2 in action, and trust me.....it'll be worth the wait. The overall speed of doing things on the Droid phone is much faster now. As for Flash....let's hope that whatever problem Adobe has, gets worked out soon too.
With the release of a Flash-enabled 2.2 update, iPhones will be left in the dust. And to think.....I almost bought one. *shiver* Thank you, AT&T, for claiming exclusivity on the iPhone. I didn't buy one for that reason alone.

Verizon does not care unless you are paying your money. If you listen to the prompts the first question is about paying your bill. That is realy all they care about
