TXT Messages Being Sent to Wrong Person

After the last update my Droid X has been sending txt to the wrong person on a more regular basis. Over the past year I noticed that intermittently the wrong person would get a txt from me. I figured I may not have been paying attention while replying. To counter this I would only have one txt thread on my phone at a time. I would delete it when I was done txting that person and would only txt one person at a time. After the last update (.605) it has started doing it about every other day.
For example I will have all txt on my phone deleted. I will create a new message to person A. I will send and receive txt from them. When done talking I delete all txt from person A. Later I create a new message going to person B and we send txt back and forth. At the end of that conversation I delete all txt from person B. Later I create a new message to person C and we send txt back and forth. During that conversation I open the thread to reply to them. Their name is listed at the top of the thread and all txt between them and myself are there also. I type in my reply then press SEND. The moment I press SEND, the name at the top changes to person A. The name then changes back to person C and the thread for person C shows that my txt was sent to them. A few minutes later I get a txt from person A saying "What???". After talking to person A and person C I find that the intended recipient, person C, did not receive my txt, although my phone shows that it was delivered to them. I find that person A, who I did not intend to receive the txt received it. My phone does not show any txt going to person A
This has happened with both the stock messaging app and Handcent. I did a factory reset two different times and left the phone bone stock from the reset, installing nothing except my contact backups and yet it still continues to do this.
Last weekend I was txting my wife and one of my personal messages to her went to a female manager at my employer. Luckily I know her well enough, was able to show her what happened and was able to avoid a bad situation. This has happened to me 5 times in the last week and a half. I don't think I will ever trust an Android phone. I don't need to lose my job or friends because of a software bug.
I've called VZW customer service both before and after I visited my local VZW store. The CS Reps. I spoke to were very nice and professional but could not help me past going through the normal troubleshooting steps and recommending a factory reset. The people at the VZW store were totally useless basically saying that it's not an issue with the hardware so I was out of luck. They did offer to sign me up for a third phone line on my account in order to get a new smartphone at the reduced price. Yea, that's what I need, three phones for two people. Basically I was told that it was Googles fault and to wait for an update. So now my phone and my service with VZW is 50% worthless to me right now.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Have you gone online (MyVerizon.com) and verified that the Text Msg's phone number? And matched it to the phone number in the TXT APP? If the numbers are different, I'd start looking deeper into the TXT app ... which one are you using?

I have verified the numbers. It has happened with both Handcent and the stock messaging app. It has happened with the phone loaded with all my apps, settings, etc. and with it bone stock. This is very frustrating because I love my phone but this is unacceptable. This is the only problem that I've had with it other than it annoyingly turning back on after I turn it off for the night. I can send out 500 txts just fine and then all of a sudden it decides to send one txt to another person.

Good afternoon flaub.
I completely understand your frustration with sending messages to an unintended recipient. I've done it myself, and I know once is too many times, so several times randomly is not acceptable. This issue is not necessarily with your specific device, as it it known to happen with a lot of Android devices. This is being worked on; however, there is no software that has completely resolved this yet. There are some work-arounds to stop this from happening, as we await a software to fix this altogether.
1. If you are creating a message, but press the Home key to exit the Messaging application before pressing Send, you will need to return to the Draft Message to discard it. (Menu > Discard.)
2. If you receive a new message and open the Messaging Application, you will need to wait several seconds until the message threads have been completely displayed. Accessing new messages too quickly can cause unintended delivery.
Please let us know if this works for you.
Thank you,

I appreciate your help but the fixes listed do not help me in any way, since at this point I am basically creating a new message every time I need to txt someone and I delete all drafts. I've been advised that I should file a privacy complaint with the FCC. I'm going to attempt VZW customer service again but I am not very hopeful since they know it is a problem but have no fix. I may just dump my phone and pay full price for an iPhone. My Verizon service up to this point has been perfect. The only other issue I've had was a billing mistake which was resolved in about ten minutes. I know this is an issue with the Android software designed by Google but text messaging is a basic function of phones today. The cheapest phone that you can buy can text message. There is virtually no reason for it to fail in this manner, especially at the rate that I am experiencing.
