Got a droid on the 6th of November. Got an automated telephone soliciting call from a GOOGLE partner today. My phone # is on the do not call registry. This is the first telephone soliciting call I have gotten on a cell phone. Some may say "Oh I get em all the time" to them I would say take better care of your number. I find it ironic that within 1 month of having a droid for a week I am getting calls from Google partners. I have to pay for these calls. I spoke with verizon about this and basically the cust service rep told me that's why verizon offers many different phones to choose from, and no one forced me to sign up for gmail etc (uh the phone wont work without it......
The could al be a 4th dimension, wormhole coincidence but somehow I doubt it.
I hope when the 1 mil who bought the droid start getting calls there is a major lawsuit over this.

I"ve been a Verizon customer a month now and have had the worst customer service experience of my life with Verizon..... get used to responses like that from them. I'm already counting down until I can switch.
Did you add your Droid # to the do not call registry?? Also those expire evey so often, make sure it's up to date. Or you could find a lawyer and go make your $1000/call or whatever it is for them violating the DNCR.

Watch when you sign up for any account or download any app. If it has the option of do you want us to contact you with blah blah always check no. You may be behind sometimes but it keeps these kind of calls away.

So the CSR thinks you are getting calls from Google partners because of Gmail. That really doesn't make sense. Nor is it an acceptable answer from a CSR. I don't recall supplying my phone # when I signed up for Gmail. Also, the Gmail Privacy Policy says nothing about phone #'s. Did you sign up for any other Google services?

No I dont use google much. The CSR rep did not say I was getting calls from google partners. I did. The rep was just appathetic about it. I am not saying it most definitly came from gmail. I am saying it came from google. The droid being the only relationship i have had with google. Yes I did search on google. I now use "scroogle". I have had cell phones since the bagphone days. This is the first time i have gotten a call From a "partner". I know google has my phone number. How else could a google "partner" get it. I tend to keep pretty private with my phone info. I know when I got the phone verizon insisted i get a gmail acct. What other info went to google (that google will use)?

You have to be careful with those things. It's like receiving a telemarketing call that says "I'm calling on behalf of" so and so. Not quite the company that they say they are, but a third party vendor/partner/whatever.

i have had mine for a month, I am getting all emails that i sighned on with. last nite i found google voice and tried to set it up. I was asked if i wanted to use a google number or a non google #. i got confused because that wasnt the way i set this up when i got the droid the first time. i am very cautious when it comes to giving out my info. Now that this thread had surfaced i really dont know if i trust any of these apps. May be i should have thought befor-hand about a phone that stores alot of my personal info. I havent gotten any telemarketer calls yet but i am watching this like a hawk......

Google Voice has no correlation to that. I have a separate GV number that's attached to my phone number. That way I don't have to give out my real number to other people I don't want to.

When you get an invite for Google Voice you can set up either a new Google number which gives you a ton of features or use existing number for some cool managing of your voice mail and such. You may be able to do both I don't know I know you can have mutiple numbers. I saw on the Google site that someone was complaining that a GOOG411 person called them to get their information updated. I kind of wonder if that isn't something like when I found a business didn't have the correct address and I reported it if they didn't call to verify the information with the business owner.

im intrested in this as well. seeing that ive had my android phone since september and have not once recieved a call from anyone that wasnt on my contacts list, not on the do not call registry and have google voice as well as many other apps that i did give my phone number on to register for.
now i have heard vz does sell customer information though and t-mobile doesnt. so this might be a factor in and of itself.
