I just bought the Droid X and i need to know where on the device i can have my phone alert me of a text msg or even an incoming call. Thanks.

Make sure notifications is checked for sms. As far as an incoming call, your phone will ring.

 Click on Text Messaging > Menu > Messaging Settings - scroll down to Notifications - there is a setting for ringtone or vibrate.

I was wondering how i to set personal ringtones as my notification sound. i was able to with my ring tone app on my old droid. now it wont  play it on the new one

It might take RingDroid or Ringo Lite to make a ringtone into a notification tone. I've done it with RingDroid. The tones must be mp3 files for RingDroid to work with them.
