Text messaging multiple recipients

Well, my biggest complaint about Gingerbread reared it's ugly head this past weekend.  The lack of "+" symbol in the "to" field of the stock text messaging app.

I wanted to text all of the people in my contacts list who are fathers, to wish them a happy father's day.  Unfortunately, to address a text message to multiple recipients, I must remember every one of them, and type in their "letter" individually.  I have to type in a letter, then pick one contact, then type in another letter, then pick another contact, then type in another, then pick...I'm sure you can see where this is going.  And of course, once I thought I had gotten everybody and pressed "send", I then went into my contacts list and realized that I had forgotten several people, and had to do it all over again.  Something that should have taken less than a minute instead took several minutes, and I'm sure I still likely forgot someone!!!

Aaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhh!!!!!  Just who's brilliant idea was it to remove the "+" symbol (that would open up the entire contact list for easy multiple picks) and replace it with the stupid "suggestion" arrow!!!!  They should be fired and shot...not necessarily in that order!!!

Try Handcent SMS from the Market. It still has the + option, and can send to more people at once than the stock messaging app.

I've tried Handcent, as well as Go SMS and a couple of others, but don't like them as much as the stock app.  It just annoys me that they removed a perfectly functional part of the stock app, for no apparent reason.  I suppose I'll take another look at Handcent.

I personally love Handcent. I hated the old stock messaging app and the fact that you couldn't change the colors or look of it at all, so I just use Handcent. It's completely customizable. The newer stock messaging app is a bit better looking, but I still feel limited when using it.

I have trouble with sending texts to multiple recipients & the message hangs after only one recipient is sent (the rest get 'stuck' with "sending" still on the messages left in the list).  Anybody have ideas?

My problem with multiple recipients is that my messages hang before everyone is "sent".  The rest don'tseem to be sent, but rather they remain marked "sending" .  Any ideas?

I am having the same problems, I had groups setup and before the last upgrade I could edit those, now if I delete a contact from the group it removes them fro my phone! So I made new groups, now when I send group messages my phone thinks the messages don't go, so when I restart my phone it sends them again (a day late)! I tried Handcent when this problem started and I thought that was the problem with my groups, so I un-installed handcent (now it doesn't show in my market?) So now I installed GoSms, it won't send to my new groups, but will to the old old ones that I can't edit!!!!!!! This is a business phone and is costing me considerable time trying to fix this problem.......... bring back the old op system or fix this one...........aaaaarrrrrrgggggg!
