Texting issues with Droid charge

I have had my new phone for a few days and the texts I send are failing to go through. I have to resend the texts numerous times before they go through. Also I have had reports of people having issues sending me text messages. I replaced the phone and i still had issues.

Has anyone had these issues

Its very frustrating to be having issues with texting. This is not a known issue. Please remove battery and sim card for about 15 seconds and re test. Are you using a text application?

I also am having texting issues...several of my "sent" texts never make it to the recipients... I have found this problem to be much worse once the battery gets to 1/2 of a full charge...and almost no texts send once at 1/4 or so.. I am also having trouble receiving texts, but not to the degree of the "sent" texts.

I am getting very frustrated with this phone.

Hello Tec4toys,

I sincerely understand your frustration about your messages not going through. I have researched this issue and what I find is that removing the battery and the SIM card for about 30 seconds from your device, then re-inserting, powering on, and trying again, is a solution for this issue.

Please try these steps and then monitor the device. Please also post back with your findings.

Thank you for your posting and have a good day!

ChristinaB VZW,

My problem is that when I DICTATE a text message instead of typing it the text message does NOT go.  It just disappears into thin air.  It's gone but who knows where.  Have you heard of this problem?

Also, can you tell me if I remove both the battery and the SIM card will that cause me any other unintended consequences such as having an unrecognizable SIM card or doing any thing else BAD to my Samsung Charge phone?

By the way, should I use the demounnt command before removing the SIM card?

Thanks and best regards,

Dear Jerry,

I think you may be confusing the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card with the microSD card.  The latter should be unmounted before removal, but the former does not to my knowledge, after checking the user manual and the Verizon site.

The SIM contains very little information, but is essential for use of the phone.  As the name suggests, it apparently contains information about you and your account, to allow the phone to use the LTE network.  The manual and site indicate you should handle it very carefully, but does not require unmounting/remounting.

WC Mack,

You are right...thanks.  Maybe I'll try the battery & card removal fix to see if that fixes the phone so I can dictate messages.  It's so fast and the voice software is so good that I really like to dictate text msgs.  On longer msgs I dictate the first, say period and quit.  Then the second sentence and so on.

It is quite annoying to have to pull the battery out every time i want to use the phone for mobile communication, whether its a phone call or text.

Since I upgraded to Android 4.2 I can't send texts and some aren't being received and I can't receive or place calls. At first taking the battery out for a few minutes helped.  Now taking the battery out for a full night doesn't help.  GPS also stopped working.  Email works,  but that may just be on wi_fi.  It tells me there's no phone network available, even in NYC.

Verizon Support,

I tried to find an answer to this so I didn't have to ask about it but so far I haven't found much information on this. I have had my Droid Charge since July of this year, so relatively new. Recently (the past week or so), an interesting issue with texting has arisen. When I send text messages to people they arrive with the first part of the message intact but the end of it is from the end of an old text message I had sent to that person. Short text messages do not seem to be an issue but when I run over into a multi-page text this seems to be becoming a reoccurring thing.

Now I have only had this issue with a single person lately so it may not be my phone but if it is I am wondering what might cause this and how can it be fixed. As it is frustrating to have to resend text messages (on that note: when I am told my message is messed up I resend it (by forwarding it to the same person) and it has in the past usually made it through fully intact however recently it has been messing up also)).

Any thoughts on the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Squibby171, thank you for your inquiry. I have not seen this as a known issue with the Charge, so it would be hard to tell exactly what is causing it. Have you been able to test this with other people since your post? If this is happening with other people, I would suggest clearing your cache from Messages, deleting your entire messaging thread with the people affected and test again. If this continues, and still affecting multiple numbers that you text, we can submit a trouble ticket to our network team.

Thank you MarquiaF_VZW! I will certainly try that suggestion out and see if that fixes the issue. I have not yet been able to reproduce the issue on purpose with anyone else so I'm not completely convinced it is the Charge but it might simply be a chache issue like you said. I will continue to play with the issue and see if I can get it to happen with other people and I'll certainly come back if I can get more details about the issue. Thanks!

I have also experienced the SAME exact issue with my Droid Incredible 2. In fact, I just got a brand new one not even a month ago and for some reason, when I text this ONE person...they get parts of old text messages mixed in with the text I ACTUALLY sent. It's rather frustrating. I took your advice and will let you know if anything happens again after clearing the cache and deleting the message threads. Thank you!

dico,

Wait for the OTA update or do the manual update of the new Gingerbread 2.3.6 software to see if NEW software fixes your problem.

usn11,

Do it again this way.  Delete any and all messages that may be saved in your phone.   Remove battery, SD card, and SIM card.  Leave battery out for 15+ minutes so the phone loses all of its power.  Re install SIM card, SD card, and battery.  Re start your phone.

I am having issues sending text message. I haven't had any problem sending SMS messages, but receiving media messages sometimes fails. I never had this issue until the last software update. It is very frustrating having to deal with this opportunity. Sure, resetting the battery and SIM card works, but why should I have to do that. I pay for an expensive phone and media package, why should I have to be inconvenienced to do this every time I want to send a text. We need a better and final resolution.

I've had the Charge since last May, problem started after the software upgrade in October/November.  Randomly fails to send text message.  Happens the most at my house despite full 5 bars of signal and perfectly fine 4G connection.  I've tried:

-clearing all messages from my phone

-clearing and syncing back all contacts on my phone

-taking out the battery AND sim card for 15 mins+

-restarting my phone

-performing a hard reset on my phone

-went through all contacts and made sure there was no "1" in front of the phone # (should be 10 digits not 11)

-deleting all the apps on my phone

-restarting the phone in Safe Mode which disables all 3rd party apps

-got a replacement from Verizon, didn't solve the issue

The only thing that helps is restarting it every time the message fails.

I've tried EVERYTHING, called Verizon multiple times, and NO SOLUTION HAS BEEN PRESENTED.  I was frustrated a couple of months ago, now I'm just LIVID.  I have to E-MAIL my boyfriend when he's at work.  This was a great phone until November, and now I'm forced to get a new phone because this one will not do its job unless I restart it once or twice a day (which drains the battery btw). DO SOMETHING VERIZON!

Thanks for your post.  I've only wasted about 50 minutes in two service calls for undelivered text messages - and now that I've read your post I can see that additional time trying to resolve this is pointless, so I won't try.

Some of the post in this thread seem to want to blame the Charge and Samsung.  Why?

Yes, I know - they made the phone.  And integrated Android onto their hardware platform....BUT...

VERIZON SOLD YOU THE PHONE.  So they are responsible for getting it fixed.  And these continual "try a reboot", or "remove the sim card", bogus "solutions" they stall you with are a joke.  In my two service calls to Verizon I was instructed to (1) remove the "1" before the phone number, and later to (2) do a reconnect to the tower.  Both completely ineffective, which simply looking thru posts on their own Verizon forums site from a full year ago would have told them.  Yet they persist in sounding on the phone like you're the first time they've ever heard of this problem, and telling you "why don't you try a reboot" kinda crap...

They sold you the phone - they have to fix it.  They have more pull with Samsung than any of us do, and we paid them a premium for the phone (the cost is in the service), so it's their responsibility.  And they aren't addressing it.

So save yourselves people.  Wait for your plan to end and then try some other carrier.  None are perfect, but Verizon is far worse than AT&T - which I left a year ago for the promised 4G.  Well, 4G don't (sic) amount to nothin' if the message don't (sic) go through.

I have replaced my phone twice now due to the phone consistently failing to send text messages. The only fix is to shut off the phone, take out the battery and the sim card. When that doesn't work you have to do a total system reset. It is upsetting to pay so much for a phone and when you call for assistance, they cannot provide any help. Apparently I am not the only one calling the company to complain of this issue but everyone acts like I am. Either all these phones are faulty or there is an issue with the software. Instead of offering a new phone, you have to call 100 times before anything happens. Then I'm told if it does it on this 3rd device corporate will decide what next. Don't you want happy customers? I agree that Verizon needs to do something.
