The Bionic - Rules All Machines??

Bought a new Bionic in September. Immediately noticed the issues that have plagued so many of these phones, data connection dropping, buzzing in the headphone port and several other issues. I did some research on multiple sites and I read where an update was in the works and it would fix the issues. Well after two months of waiting I finally had enough of having to toggle airplane mode or reboot 5-10 times a day.

I called Verizon and they told me it was a hardware issue and put me in touch with Motorola. Motorola wanted me to send my phone in for repairs that would take 7 to 10 days. I didn't really want to be without a phone for that long so they suggested I get in contact with Verizon to see if they had a loaner phone. So Verizon called all of my local stores and they didn't have a single Bionic (yeah right). So they agreed to just ship me a replacement phone.

So after Verizon ships my phone via USPS the day before Veterans day, I finally get the "new" Bionic. Just so you know what is in that contract you sign, Verizon doesn't ship you a new phone. They ship you a used phone. This was very evident when I pressed the volume up button and the entire button assembly fell out of the phone. The replacement phone also has cosmetic flaws on the sides of the phone.

I wouldn't say the Bionic Rules All Machines when it can't even function on it's own. So anybody looking to buy a Bionic, good luck. The phone really is good when it works. Unfortunately for me, that has been a very rare occasion.

I feel your pain and I think you just wasted your time getting a replacement device anyway because just like you reported the data connection situation has been showing up on many different devices and if this was a device issue this wouldn't be the case.

In my opinion the issue is that the data connection times out from the network side which usually only suppose to happen when the data connection hasn't had any activity but it does it regularly when a user is using the connection.

Also as for the device being a replacement this has been a on going conversation on the forums so this is a commonly known fact, the only issue instead of acknowledging a network issue the device gets the blame and this is why so many always think the phone has regular issues.

I am presently seeing the data connection going dormant on my Thunderbolt and I have to use Airplane mode to get it back and it is really starting to get to be a pain, especially when CS keep reporting this hasn't been reported before.  I have had nice reception with Verizon but the data connection is becoming just to unstable and soon I will have to figure out another solution.

Hope they address this soon...

If my only problem with the Bionic had been data drops, I might not have traded phones so quickly, as I was beginning to believe that the network was having issues with 4G coverage, even though we don't have 4G here.

However, I had 3 Bionics and in addition to loss of data service, all 3 phones would decide to stop calls from being received, calls being made, reboots, freezing, and black screens, all remedied by battery pulls. Youve seen my participation in the Droid X forums enough to know that I was an avid Android fan.

But not at the present time , at least for the foreseeable future. The iPhone, for what it is, simply works. It has never dropped the data connection (although it's still only 3G), never frozen, never dropped a call, never rebooted on its own, and I didn't reboot the thing for 3 weeks until this recent update (which, admittedly, doesn't seem to have improved the battery life as claimed).

Now I'm not about to turn iPhone fanboy on everyone. But...my workday no longer includes monkeying with a phone in order to use it.

Data drops are caused by the 4g radio fighting with the 3g radio. If you are in an area where 4g is spotty, turn it off in the settings. I do that when im home. When im in town I turn on 4g. Alot of people overlook this. Motorola should have an update to fix the bugs in a few weeks or so. Supposebly.

I had read early on about Tbolt users turning off the 4G feature while in a weak or unavailable area. So that was the first thing I did with my Bionic. I wish that it had helped...

I dearly hope the forthcoming update solves these problems with the Bionic, although it's starting to appear that network issue are playing a part in the Bionic's (among other 4G phones on Verizon) data woes. And I'm aware of a boatload of Bionic owners who are reporting no problems. I just wish I had been one of them.

Morning Geri an i've said it before i wished i could've of got a Bionic but less some of the issues. But with the update that's coming Hopefully Between Moto a Verizon will get the issues resolved. I know with the update i got yesterday with my D.Inc. it fixed some things One was the seeing Sprint in the Market an the Talk to Text an a few other little issues but what has puzzled me is the Skipping issue on it i'll be playing winamp with plug in an it'll stream with no problem but when i pull that Cord here comes the skippin or if i say leave the display light on for 30 min in that 30 min. of the light being it'll stream fine when the light goes off back to same ol.. same ol an i'm at my witts end what to do. So i can see why when some one gets a new phone an right out the batt there haveing issues.  It can make them just alittle Ticked off.... B33

I just read a recent article on MSNBC(?) late last week and it states that the November software upgrade that was promised for Bionic fix is no longer set to take place.
